How good would the Jags defense be if we signed Jarius Byrd and drafted Clowney?

Quote:I agree, was just wondering what the d would look like with Byrd and Clowney. I think Jimmie Ward will be the best safety in this class, a pro bowler, and can be had in the 2nd. I am a Gator fan but I dont ever see Evans making a huge impact on this team, hopefully im wrong though.
I'm seeing lower draft projections for Ward. NFL.com has him in the 6-7 round.

Is that right?

Cross your fingers and hope for the 6-7 round.

Baltimore sun reports draft analyst have him where you project in the 2-3 rounds.

Calvin Pryor then Jimmie Ward, those are the top two

Ward has no business being ahead of Pryor though

Weird.  In the past month, I haven't see that guy fall out of the 2nd in any mock.  I'm not sure how he has a 6-7 round grade on him.

Lol, wont happen, I think if he is there in the 3rd Dave jumps on him.  He is the best cover guy in the draft IMO, I think he can be a lot like Thomas.

CBS has him as there number 1 SS but I think he moves FS in the pros.

I'm skeptical of the draft projection as well. From NFL.com.

But he ran a 4.47 at his pro day.

Quote:Byrd will be overpaid for what he gives his new team. I would rather it not be the Jaguars.

Byrd has proven to be an elite level ball hawk in his career....

thats more than I can say for some of the free agent DE's that are left on the market....NONE of them have been elite level at any point in their careers as pass rushers.

Give Byrd the 8-9 million a year with a large, up-front bonus. We have the money, and it's unlikely that we find someone better through the draft. He's young and very good. If we don't sign anyone else, we need to get a player of Byrd's caliber. He's not a Clint Session or Hugh Douglas. He isn't past his prime; he isn't injury-prone; he didn't just have one very good season. He's consistently good. I hope Caldwell makes this happen...

So what do you think he is worth?

he is worth 6 mill a year not 9. I have been saying this for months there is a reason the bills aren't paying it.

6 mil?  He is worth what we have been paying a 33 yr. old Babin?

Clowney by himself makes this defense two times better than last year.

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

This defense would be scary:

RDE Clowney

DT1 Marks

DT2 Miller

LDE Bryant

LOLB Hayes

MLB Poz

ROLB Allen

CB 1 Gratz

CB 2 Ball

CB 3 Blackmon

FS Byrd

SS Cyp

They're not bad, but they're not good.

I honestly think you could take Mack and have just as much if not more impact in our defense as Clowney.

Imagine picking up Timmy Jernigan in round two. Our defense would be ridiculous. Well on paper anyways.
