Profiling is only a problem for the ones that seemingly wish to enable harm being done. 

 

I have no problem profiling. If one is doing nothing wrong/ not hiding anything, then they won't get arrested. Profiling is merely "moneyball" but in the realm of security.  "Too bad if they don't like it" is how I would handle it. Once the statistics proved to refocus, then any changes would be made by that. Math is colorblind/ ethnic blind. 

Problem is, with the well oiled machine that is the TSA any profiling would never go beyond "he's a bit dark, let's search him."

The Interpol database has 40 million stolen or missing ID documents in it. No system in the world can check that many listings and still operate efficiently. The TSA does checks at the airport to see if the person on the boarding pass is the same as the person on the passport but it doesn't cross reference every stolen document on Interpol's list.

 

It also doesn't help that it was released that the airlines dont check that too often even though its there for their availability, does it?

 

You dont think airlines can do a quick look up of every single person flying on their airline if they wanted to?

You seem to be pointing out many short comings and trying to disvalue what others think can possibly help (I'm not with the gun thing he mentioned...).  What do you suggest be done then?  Let an airplane blow up occasionally so we dont infringe on anyone's rights?

There are too many whack jobs out there that do have guns to be put in a confined space like that.

 

I'm not saying profiling is fair to everyone, but if its going to save 2 to 300 lives....its for the better good.

Federal Air Marshals are trained professionals operating under strict guidelines. They can't even identify themselves unless very specific conditions are met, let alone draw their weapons. They are a far cry from the average person with a gun.

Look at security in Israeli airports. It's fast, efficient, and incredibly effective. Use that model instead of barely sentient rent-a-cops the TSA uses now.

A quick look up is viable if the list you're checking against is small and only takes a few seconds to check. The check every document against a list of 40 million would take days possibly even weeks for every flight. It's just not realistic.
