Jags to pass on QB in first round per sources

#21

Quote:It was obvious when DiRocco reported this a couple of days ago. Jaguars are looking for an impact player, pass rusher, Clowney or Mack.

Yup, not really news at all.  Martineau and others close to the organization (Boselli, etc.) have been saying this for some time now.  News to some, but not new news.

Yep, small school guy..... I won't be surprised if he busts at the pro level.

Quote:Murray gets jittery in the big moments

McCarron gets jittery when things don't go his way

Boyd is just plain garbage

Mettenberger is a statue and gets jittery under the rush

Mate the offense with the QB.  Here comes the jitterbug, fellas! :teehee:

Quote:Why a team that knows it's not taking a QB high would fight to sign a guy who has never posted a passer rating 80 or higher for a season is beyond me.

I know the free agency QB pickings are slim, but there are definitely guys that will come free that could have been brought in to put up a better fight than Henne.

Tell us how you really feel again, again...

Lol Henne resigning will have no impact on what we do in the draft

A league source tells the Florida Times Union that the Jaguars are unlikely to use a first-round pick on a quarterback after re-signing Chad Henne to a two-year contract on Friday.

There is increasing chatter that quarterbacks are going to fall in the draft, and the slides could be expedited if QB-needy teams like Jacksonville suddenly pull out of the derby. Of course, this is Lying Season in the NFL, making it difficult to trust anonymous "league sources." Stated the source, "With Henne back, I don't expect them to take QB until 2nd round and maybe not until 3rd or 4th round." It's worth noting that the source's quarterback expectation would be similar to the path that led the Seahawks to Russell Wilson. Gus Bradley was Seattle's defensive coordinator at the time. He's now the Jaguars' head coach.

It's lying season.   I swear we're not gonna take Bridgewater!   I swear!   No, really.   We're not taking him.   You don't need to trade up ahead of us to get him.   He'll fall right down the draft board.   Don't waste your time trading with St. Louis to get him, because you don't need to get ahead of us to get him.   I swear.   Really.   Seriously.

As much as I want Manziel, I hope we do pass on a QB in the first round and take Clowney.. This team has been without a good DE for a long time..

I disagree. I especially believe it will positively affect the quantity of QB selected in the draft, i.e. forget 2 now, they will prob just draft one.

Some believe they'll still need a good DE, even if that happens.

I like Mack but he would be 5th or 6th on my board, and I think picking him over guys like Clowney, Bridgewater and Manziel is drafting scared and trying to be safe, I remember Aaron Curry was suppose to be the safest player in his draft and look what happen there. I would rather draft Mack

Quote:smh another example of Caldwell showing his cards

Or Caldwell know he needs a competent backup QB

in a trade back situation.

I never thought they would draft 2,  but yea we def wont draft 2 now, but I meant more on them saying we wont draft a QB in the first round just because we resigned Henne.

and the fact that he's a linebacker, and we're picking 3rd overall.

No reason to draft two now.. But that's a good thing.. Too many holes to fill on this roster..

Again, Khan said they could possibly draft 2 QB'S and they already knew then that they were going to try and resign Henne. It has zero impact. If they really like a guy in a round and represents value then they'll draft him. They are no more or less likely to draft 2 QB'S regardless of what they did with Henne.
