Shad Khan: Its time, actually its overdue....

Just to post my two cents here
Numbers are like history banks. They shouldn't be retired and when a rookie gets a number like 71 or 28, Its his job to deposit some more history into that number. Its like 81. So many good WR's have used that number that when you think of it, It seems like a fit for the best WR on the team because so much history (by many players) has been deposited into it. Lets bring them back and let 71 or 28 or 82 gain some more history/prestige.
Quote:Meet the new dog, same as the old dog Quote:We have the beginning of a new TMD Crusade. Personally, I think they should remain unused. Especially 71. Quote:Let me guess. Somehow this shows Khan is a weak owner. Quote:Exactly. This is just the typical "look at me!" thread someone desperately seeking attention would start. In the grand scheme of things, nobody cares about this. None of the numbers are retired, and if there's a need, I'm sure the team will use them. Jeez, Louise....who made the "look at me" post you four, or me?? My OP post was about the team and an actual issue - and given that a few in the thread have agreed with what I said, its not as absurd as you four are hoping to make it seem. Your above posts were pretty much either about me, or about your being butt hurt by the suggestion in the OP. IMO, its time to put the numbers back into circulation. Stop trying to create fake tradition and let real tradition get earned by itself. I loved Boselli as a player. However, as good as Boselli was, he didn't have the longevity to earn either a HOF induction, nor this ongoing OOC (out of circulation) honor. Its been over a decade. Five years OOC would have been plenty for each player involved. While they were the most successful times this franchise had when those guys were playing, in the end, we never won or even appeared in a SB with those guys, and non of their career totals/ impact earned a HOF induction. Stop making this about the poster and just look at the facts. You're entitled to disagree. But when you feel the need to add in your little insults or snarky comments it just shows that you don't think your opinion is strong enough to stand on its own without that.
Quote: I kind of like our low standards. Philly goes to 5 NFC Championship games and run their QB and Coach out of town. We go to a couple and retire numbers. As stated before, Jimmy Smith is the equivalent of Rod Smith (Broncos) without 2 Super Bowl Rings. If they were to retire Rod Smiths jersey tomorrow, we'd all laugh.

Its high time to put at least the 8, 71, & 82 back into circulation. Five years was plenty reasonable honor enough to keep the numbers OOC., IMO. I'd re-install 28 back in soon, as well. If they want to install all of them in the Ring of Honor - then fine. But keep the numbers in circulation. And I like my example - The Cowboys had a WR that won 3 SB & is in the HOF wear #88..... Someone else wears #88 today for them. Thats how you do it. Act like you've been there before. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I might entertain the discussion on the 8 and 82, but I think Boselli's play when he was here and his continued activity on behalf of the Jaguars keeps his number out of that conversation.
This team has way too many other problems than to worry about bringing numbers out of retirement

If it really bothers you this much, here is my suggestion. Start a company, become a self-made billionaire, buy the team, draft or sign a QB/kicker/punter and give him #8 no matter what number he wants. Problem solved.

Quote:This team has way too many other problems than to worry about bringing numbers out of retirement  "worrying"? Its a simple fix. Its not something that encompasses "worrying" on either side of the issue. Khan: "we are putting the 8, 71 and 82 back into circulation from this point forward. We appreciate the history thats involved with them, but we feel its time to let someone else continue the proud Jaguars tradition into the future and make some new memories with them". Done. Easy.
Quote:"worrying"? Its a simple fix. Its not something that encompasses "worrying" on either side of the issue. I am sure on the Khan, Lamping and Caldwell Care-O-Meter, this registers somewhere near the brand of paper towels in the stadium bathrooms.

I made one thread about this, as a suggestion. Considering some of the snarky responses, like yours, it bothers some of you a whole lot more than it does me.
Doesn't bother me either. I like the idea of taking it out of circulation immediately after the player is finished. But have no problem with any of them being put back into circulation.

Quote:I made one thread about this, as a suggestion. Considering some of the snarky responses, like yours, it bothers some of you a whole lot more than it does me. Right. Because you haven't posted this near exact same thing before. A quick Google search reveals this post from September. http://jungle.jaguars.com/index.php?/top...ars/page-3 However, the Jags are a bit ridiculous too - with the way they STILL keep 8, 71, 82 out of "rotation". All 3 of those numbers should be in use by now. Hell..., Michael Irvin was arguably a better player at his position than all 3 of those were at their positions, and won THREE SB's, and yet Dallas still has #88 in the rotation, which Dez Bryant uses currently....

Quote:Right. Because you haven't posted this near exact same thing before. A quick Google search reveals this post from September. A long time ago. Given that its the next offseason, (and this is when something like this would get done)....it makes sense to re-visit the topic. If I had a nickel for every time any single poster on this forum re-brought up Bridgewater, LEO, or JohnnyFootball, I think I'd be rich. But I re-visit an old topic (probably the only thread this offseason that will cover it, and you act/ imply like its rampant).
Quote:A long time ago. You're the only person talking about. The only one bothered by it. The only one that cares. You bringing it up every few months isn't going to make people react to you any differently.
