What would you think of a trade for Kirk Cousins?

Imagine how much better we could be if Gene Smith had not traded our 2010 and 2011 second round picks. That is one pick I hope David Caldwell never trades away for anybody.

Maybe bring him in with a Luke McCown type deal with a 7th.

The thought of anyone giving up a 2nd after his performance last season is laughable.

Im hearing alot of comparisons between Shaw and Russell Wilson.

If he is only worth a 7th, I would keep the pick.

What? So he's worth a two or a three or a four, but if all the Redskins ask is a seventh, you'd pass? Shoot, I'd trade a seven for him. The guys traded for seventh-round picks are typically the guys who are going to get cut anyway, so the team wants to see if they can recoup a conditional pick and choose who the guy plays for.

Trades for players generally suck for two reasons.

1. It costs a draft pick. In this case, you suggested a high second rounder. That's one less player coming in as a possible impact rookie.

2. When a trade like that happens, it gives leverage to the player in contract negotiations. That player and his agent will go into the "you wanted us enough to trade for us" mode, and will immediately want a contract. They won't be looking to do it on the cheap. They never do.

Look at what the Jags and even the fans here say about the picks we got for our trades. A fifth for Thomas and a fourth and fifth for Monroe. I don't hear too many people being unhappy with those picks. Now, look at what the teams that traded for the players got. Detroit got pretty much Jack squat out of Thomas. Baltimore is trying to figure out how to sign Monroe, and guess what he and his agent are saying? (Hint: it's in this post somewhere.

So, all that said, I would emphatically say no.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

If the Redskins were asking for a seventh, they would be saying, "We are desperate to get rid of him because he sucks."

Grab Clowney in the first and use the 2nd on Cousins, maybe?
After how bad he played to close the season? NO! I would give them a 2nd for RGIII tho.

Edit: Cousins is debatable around a 5th or lower pick to me. Otherwise go with the current crop over him.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

I would be against Cousins.

I don't think he would be a big upgrade over Chad Henne (yes, I said that).

No. Why?

Quote:In this circumstance, I don't necessarily have Cousins designated as a career backup.  He was a fourth rounder two years ago.  He is behind RGIII, a truly gifted athlete, on the depth chart.  I wonder if he is as good as the top qbs in this draft?  I think maybe.  Is he as good as the qbs in this draft who will be available in the 2nd round and after?  I think probably.

But, a 2nd round pick is valuable enough that you may not be able to justify spending it on any of the qbs available to us this year.  So, that's why I'm asking the question.
Why would a 4th rounder who's done nothing to distinguish himself suddenly be worth a  2nd rounder?

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

No way give up a 2nd Rd for him. Maybe a 3rd, preferably our 2nd 4th Rd pick.

wouldn't give up more than a 4th

he hasn't done anything above his draft value and personally I'd rather rather we took fales garropollo murray or mettenberger with that 4th than cousins

enough depth in this draft to get a solid guy in the 4th round i reckon

Cousins is a career backup at best. Why would we waste an early pick on that?
