Please Mr Caldwell take Manziel with 3rd pick

Quote:Put on your unbiased evaluation cap and show me a sure-thing prospect, and I'll show you a liar.I always have it on when watching college prospects, and of course there is no such thing as an absolute sure thing. However, you do try your best to find the prospect that fits best on a risk/reward x/y graph...and to me Manziel simply falls a comfortable 4th at QB on that graph. I guess we'll see how Caldwell sees Manziel's value. Or any of the other GMs in the top five. We have 4 months to surmise.
And no, I won't be mad if Dave deems Johnny to be the best QB/player on the board when he picks...I obviously defer to his knowledge haha. I would root for Manziel as hard as I ever have for any other Jaguar. I just fear the masses have been hypnotized by the show, excitement, brazenness, emotions, etc that come with watching Johnny, and have not taken the time to really look at his skills and how they will or won't transfer to the bigger/stronger/faster and especially more disciplined NFL.

I don't feel like any team will be able to try the "Tebow" approach with Manziel--that is, force him into the prototypical QB mold and make him fit a more conventional playstyle. But Manziel's style *might* just translate to the pros, and if it does, he will be an absolute FORCE.

Bravo.....whoever he picks, I hope it's the right choice. We have had a history of bad decisions. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
He's too small and will get injured frequently in the NFL with his style of play.
Quote:I'm sold.Exactly. He would be very exciting to watch. I think Texans take him with first overall pick now.

![]() As long as we stay put, one or more of Bridgewater, Clowney and Manziel will be on the board, right now Manziel looks more likely but who knows...
You cannot base your judgment on the way a player jumps around, gets excited, waves at the fans, etc. I'm not saying Manziel will be a bust or that he won't be an NFL superstar. But what I see in this thread is a lot of what made people all excited about Tebow.
The Jags will be at his pro day, and they will see his velocity and accuracy, they will interview him and assess his football IQ, they will investigate him, they will watch film. In short, they will do their due diligence and compare him to all the other players in the draft. They will not get caught up in the way a player jumps up and down on the sidelines. They will not get all caught up in the kind of "intangibles" that were so much a part of Tim Tebow. There's too much excitement in this thread. You have to be cold-bloodedly analytical to assess this guy.
I think after tonight's game with Bortles we'll be able to tell which QB will be where. What if Bortles comes out and is more impressive than Manzeil? Does everyone on this board jump around like chickens with their heads cut off and we forget about Manzeil again?
Lets all step back from the crazy train and take a deep breath. There's a long time until draft day and FA hasn't even started yet. From what Caldwell says i doubt we get a Qb there, but the texans might. ![]()
Manziel has better running ability, better decision making, and is a much better passer than Tim Tebow could have ever imagined of being.
He's got all the excitement in the world not because he's a Gator, or cuz he's a church going fella, or because he's basically a saint... I'm sold. The only other QB I would take over him is Bridgewater.

The best thing about Manziel's performance last night is it pretty much cemented that the Jags #3 pick will be valuable, more valuable than had Manziel crapped the bed last night.

The more players turn it up and skyrocket in the draft, the better for us. Sometimes there's teams that fall in love with players and reaaaally want to trade up for someone. May be true especially if the Rams take Matthews (which I don't think they should - I'm beginning to rethink weather it's smart to draft a tackle with the 2nd overall pick at all)

Amazing college player, but he will be a huge project at the next level. I would trade back for him or hope for a fall to our second.
Just can't make myself love him at 3.

One thing I saw from him last is a very strong arm and also a pretty quick release when needed. His accuracy was good too...1 incompletion in the 2nd half?

It wasn't the same circumstances as the draft this year. Last year Joeckel simply was one of if not the best players in that draft. This year its not the case that a Tackle is the best player. |
