Blake Bortles could probably be our guy.

There really isn't much of a difference in between the top three QBs in terms of talent so hopefully we're not reaching with that no. three pick. We have plenty of ammunition to move up into the end of the first to snatch a QB with the thirty ninth pick.

Quote:Except for Jimmy Clausen. Man, Gruden made him look so inept (which he was/is).
Geno Smith too.  He looked lost.

Quote:I wasn't just referring to that stat, (although it does seem promising). Anytime I read about a QB that has "done more with less" weapons, thats a good sign regarding that QB and projecting him to success at the NFL level. It suggests he is able to withstand adversity. In the NFL as a QB if you cannot make plays through adversity, you'll never be successful.

I agree that this can be a good sign.  Especially if that same player has shown up big when playing schools with more talent.  even if they do not win, if they are competitive and playing well it is a good sign for when the playing field is a bit more balanced.

Quote:Here is a breakdown that compares his size and play to Big Ben and Cam Newton.

"Bortles will hold onto the ball because he's looking to hit on the deeper throws. Compared to last season, his deep ball accuracy is improved considerably. However, he's not always on point when trying to place the ball over the receiver's shoulder in stride."

If the above is true, another season in college might serve him better than jumping to the pro's especially to polish up on the shoulder throws.

The pro's isn't the place to polish up your game. Thats partly why so many non-Senior QB fail in the NFL.

I don't know how accurate any of the pre-draft analyses are, I remember reading that Jason Pierre Paul could not "shed blocks."  That being said, the rest of the article is pretty complimentary.

I think these are the passing charts someone referenced earlier.

As long as we don't blow our first round pick on him, it's cool with me.

If we could get Clowney in the first then Bortles with our second pick (whether it's trading back up into the second or in the second round) I would love this scenario

The problem is that Big Ben and Cam have rockets. Bortles has a barely good enough arm, and he is solid everywhere else. I wouldn't feel good taking him at #3, but if he's there when we pick in the 2nd...I wouldn't mind him (or even a trade up to the 20s).

I've always thought something was off about Bortles throwing motion. I think a qb coach could tweak his mechanics some and get some extra zip on his passes.

Gonna be pretty darn hard to get two top 10 picks...

I probably overreacted yesterday but some of it was just having fun and exaggerating. Of course this is just highlights but he makes some beautiful touch throws, shows good pocket presence and the ability to step up and make the throw; nice mobility as well. I like his measurables as well.

Has anyone watched the kid or followed UCF? Could you share your thoughts?

UCF homer here. I would love for the jags to get him. He's a fantastic all-around QB. Only real head scratching play I can remember him make is one awful interception vs USF. He has all the physical tools you could want and shines in crunch time. Assuming Teddy goes to HOU, Blake is who I want at 3.

I do like what he's done in crunch time.  Seems to really rise to the occasion.

I would love for us to nab Bortles in the 2nd, but since it isn't going to happen, no.

LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

Clowney or Barr at 3

Then trade up into the 20s and take Bortles, Carr, or Manziel.

So is Bortles this year's Matt Scott?
