Quote:It's funny that people talk like this about McDonald's and Taco Bell....but somehow they are raking in millions upon millions of dollars on a daily basis.

Everyone always bashes....but everyone is also eating it.

"Everyone" is not eating it. Now, they sure do make alot of money. All that proves is there are millions of people that don't care about their own health or the health of their children. We live in a country where half of our citizens are overweight. Does millions of people eating there supposed to surprise me? Is it supposed to make their food less terrible? No.

Word. I spent some time at Baptist downtown when my daughter was born and remember the food being decent but it was probably overpriced too.

Taco Bell is my drug of choice and the only fast food chain that will win the fast food wars.

Still don't know how to use the 3 sea shells though..

I am not sure how a sober person can actually look forward to eating that garbage.

Unpalatable food is edible and impoverished fatties are poor.  And probably hungry.  Probably often.  Because fat.

Excuse me for using everyone....way to take it literally.

For many its a quick easy meal for a time strapped family.  I rarely ever eat Mcdonald's, but they are not the only culprit.  People would eat at the sit down chains more if they were cheaper and then everyone would put the blame on them.  It isnt Mcdonald's fault people make bad decisions anyway.  If they decided to stop serving what they serve, someone else would step in, fill the void and then make millions....and then everyone would step in line and do the same thing to that restaurant.

You cant blame the source when the people are the ones making what you feel are bad decisions.

For a family of 4, how much does it cost to eat at McDonalds? 20 dollars? You can easily make a healthy, home cooked meal for that.

You can eat soup out of a can for 2 bucks that is better for you.

A can of soup out of a container is not a balanced meal and its not what I would call heatlhy.  Ever check out the saturated fat and salt in those?

If a single father/mother gets off work at 7:30 and his kids are at his grandparents and havent eaten yet.  Their bedtime is typically 8....an easy alternative is fast food.  Sucks, but thats the way the world turns.

I'm not saying they couldnt go home and do something else, but for many its an easy alternative after a long day.  Just because you dont agree, doesn't make it wrong.

I can't speak to every situation. But I doubt most people eating there are as desperate for time and food as the example you present. I am not making this about right or wrong. They are adults and are free to do whatever they want. But I feel bad for the kids that get fed that garbage. I see it when I pick my kids up at school or coach my son's football team. Fat kids with fat parents. These kids are 9-10 years old and get winded jogging down a 50 yard field.

The microwave and I have become one since last year. Not really complaining, but sometimes fast food is a much better alternative.

Time and convenience are normally the deciding factors.  Or, as a break for mom.  Remember the old McDonalds commercial years ago "You deserve a break today..."?  Unfortunately laziness is becoming a bigger reason people eat there.

Wait a minute, I could take this to the next level.  What if I started a McDonalds delivery service?

That's the new America, unfortunately.

Quote:Places like Five Guys don't have to be ashamed of what they serve or offer a salad  They are comfortable in what they are and it's up to the adults that eat it to make their decision.

With McDonalds, it's because they have always marketed towards children. It's like cigarette companies when they had Joe Camel and the Marlboro Man. They get kids hooked at an early age and they have a customer for (an abbreviated) life.

the kids can't buy the food, the parents feed it to them. I don't fault McDonald's for fat kids or adults, I fault the individual (talking to myself as well, I'm a big guy).

It's the new world.  Obesity is on the rise everywhere.  Even the Philippines, which is a third world country.  When I lived there years ago, seeing a plump Filipino was rare.  It was usually a person from a wealthier family.  Now, watching Filipino broadcasts with my wife, I see them frequently.  Not just a little overweight, but clinically obese.  This in a country where legions still live in squatters huts made of plywood and cardboard with no plumbing.  I don't get it.

So you are going to force other parents not to eat at Mcdonald's or other fast food joints?  You are going to force people and not let them make personal choices?

The government has done that enough for me, no thanks.

Edit:  The side I brought to my parents yesterday was spinach.  How healthy of me.

Food in general is only going to keep going up in cost. I know me and the wife this year started a vegetable garden, this next year we plan on doing some fruits and herbs in addition to the veggies, and MY goal is to buy some chickens and MAYBE a pig to raise for meat!

It's a lot of work but I enjoy it and it's rewarding eating something you grew or raised.
