He's right though isn't he? You posted this rubbish which wasn't true.

Quote:More money, ha.  He is so overpaid right now.  I will say he has been playing better the last 4 or 5 weeks but lets not go overboard.

He was inured for the first 6 weeks, then they eased him back in.  I'd say he has done pretty well actually, 4 weeks in a row with a touchdown.

Quote:Do you know that he only have 22 rec for 289 yds and 4 big TD's right? Let's not act like he's going to the probowl because henne is feeding him the rock but has been playing better recently although still not worthy of his contract.

Please point to where I said he isnt overpaid. Many posters here think he is a garbage player. Which is far from the truth. With a good QB he could put up similar seasons to 2010 every year. IMO thats worth about 5-6 mil per year.

The contract Smiff gave him was stupid.  If you can get past that and actually watch what he does in the game - it's easy to see he's valuable to the team.

I challenge the haters to replay an entire game from the past 5 weeks and count how many times he actually runs a route.  He STILL spends many more snaps chipping and leaking out, doubling a pass rusher, or even lead blocking at times  -  than he does as a receiving TE.  His production would be much greater were he not needed to bolster the line and help a struggling run game.

I'd love to see them re-negotiate, but if he is gone due to the dumb contract, so be it.  He could be replaced obviously, but a rookie isn't going to come in and be able to contribute on his level right away and the free agent list isn't terribly attractive this year.  There are some aging and injured guys and guys that catch but don't block or vice versa. There are also a bunch of guys that have disappeared in a contract year on the list.  Not good.    I think Andrew Quarless is an intriguing FA, but he couldn't assume much of Lewis' role as a blocker.

DiRocco ESPN:

Quote:Keeping Lewis involved: Marcedes Lewis caught a touchdown pass in his fourth consecutive game and finished with four catches for 50 yards. He has been much more involved in the offense over the past month, which has really helped the Jaguars overcome an injured and now-missing Cecil Shorts. He should have been more involved earlier in the season but he needed time to adjust to the system after missing so much time because of a calf injury. His past month also highlights an interesting decision the Jaguars have heading into 2014: Do they keep Lewis, who is scheduled to make $6.7 million in base salary next season and $6.65 million in 2015? He has proved he is still a productive player and probably could catch 50 passes in Jedd Fisch’s offense in a full season, but that’s a lot of money to devote to a player who will be 30 next year and isn’t part of the team’s long-term plans.

While Jaxxnate might have been wrong about it being a contract year for Marcedes i doubt he was making the post out of jealously over how much Marcedes makes which is what Dragon was implying.

Id say they both posted rubbish but only one was football rubbish.

Really, what is the point of cutting Marcedes?  The guy is a good player.  A really good player.  Do we care that he makes 7 million dollars a year?

I'd say who cares either way.  Lewis is playing better late in the season because the QB has started targeting him, and the offensive coordinator has started calling plays that utilize his strengths in the receiving game.  Lewis has never been nearly as bad as some here would like to claim.  He simply hasn't been used properly.  He's had his issues, but when they get him in mismatches where he has a huge height advantage, they're only just now realizing what he can do.

He's not going anywhere, and he's not playing up because he's in a contract year.  The OP was wrong about that.  He's playing up because they're giving him a more prominent role.  Has nothing to do with his contract.

To be clear, one of the main reasons he wasn't being used properly was out of necessity.  They needed him to block with the line being as bad as it has been.  But, as things have progressed there, he's been able to peel away from blocking and become more of a weapon in the passing game.  He's rounding into one of the more complete TEs in the game right now.

I don't get it. He's supposed to throw the ball to himself?

Exactly Ninja, I admitted my mistake and would have deleted the thread if I had the ability.  It was the immature comment that was rather annoying.

Lewis's slump was directly connected to the guy throwing him the ball.

He finally gets a guy who doesn't throw the ball around his ankles all the time and suddenly he's productive again.

all the great offenses really focus on the TE as a weapon.Keeping Lewis and drafting another would be nice

in almost every game where he has been healthy he has made a guy miss or bounced one off him and got us a first down and got us fired up and moving.

His importance in our run game cannot be underestimated especially with guys like todman and robinson who need to run to the outside.

Right now he is a vital part of our offense and it is not a coincidence are run game improved when he came back. If we can start running up the gut with new talent in the centre and our pass protection improving he can start to make more of an imprint in the pass game whilst he has established himself as a big redzone threat

Plus he leads on offense, remember him calling a meeting to get the offense together in the preseason. With more youth incoming possibly at qb, centre, guard and rb he can be a leader on offense,

Both him and poz have inflated contracts and if we were in cap trouble i would join in the whining about his contract but we are very well off and are a team with very few firm starters. To cut him right now doesn't make sense as he is a strength not a weakness for us.

When we can afford to loose solid starters we ask him to renegotiate or if we have someone to replace him, right now it's just not a priority.

I don't get the hate Lewis consistently gets around here.

It's no coincidence that his production dropped off significantly when we transitioned from Garrard to the McCown/Gabbert/Henne era and when the OL bottomed out. He's a weapon, and it's good to see that he's being properly utilized now.

Dave Caldwell was right, ML can indeed be a cornerstone of this team. Given the right match up he can dominate his defender as a receiver, and he's shown his value in the run game. He is so big, so strong. Sure, he's had his issues earlier in his career, but look at the QBs he's had, and the role he's had to play, in the years many players start to hit their stride.

ML cannot help where he was drafted, nor can he be blamed for signing a contract he may not have deserved. All he did was do his job as well as he can. I hope the Jaguars find a reasonable, fair way to keep him around awhile.

If I was a billionaire and owned this team, I'd give Lewis a six figure bonus every time he grabbed a DB and tossed him aside while running after a catch, it's just that much fun to watch.
