You mock homebiscuit but if that guy specialized in some kind of old programming language like COBOL or Assembly he can pretty much dictate his own salary right about now.

demand for people who can and the supply is low.  Same with oldschool 4:3 monitors in the arcading community.  No one makes them anymore so reasonably sized ones that don't weigh a ton are in high demand.

A lot of older systems used them and because they were so critical in whatever process they were a part of they were never updated or replaced because that would entail developing a brand new system at huge cost and if it ain't broke don't fix it. From there it's like realtorpat says; low supply, high demand.
