Now maybe my friend Ponce can truly rest in peace.  Ponce was almost as old as Castro.  A wise man and brilliant engineer, Ponce died on October 14th.

As long as the Soviets were propping it up. But when times were good under their fellow comrades, the health care was a blessing since Cubans live just above third world conditions and would be shot if they tried to defect.

My god, the moral contortions you robot left-wingers will assume in order to defend a tyrannical monster is absolutely breath taking. Please, go to little Havana in Miami and extol the virtues of Castro's reign. I dare you.

Yeah, try finding an aspirin in that glorious paradise.

In a mocking voice: 'But they have superior healthcare to yours.'

Geezus...

I'm just saying there was some good for the people of cuba. The average person there lives longer than the US.

Also having a go at another country for its oppressive regime when a quarter of the world's inmates are locked up in the US not to mention Guantanamo bay is a bit rich.

Right, because those two are completely comparable. Keep trying.

It shouldn't be difficult since they supposedly outlive Americans. I mean, that's good, right?

To all my Cuban friends, first the bad news: You'll live in grinding poverty under the authoritarian rule of a madman masquerading as a leftist revolutionary (which is a front for enriching himself, his family, and his closest comrades who live in relative grandeur while you scrape by on pennies a day). Oh, the ruling government class will not hesitate to kill you should you choose to exercise a basic human right to live elsewhere.

The good news: free mediocre healthcare for life.

The REALLY GOOD NEWS: You'll have longer life spans to enjoy the desperate poverty and total subjugation. Tell that to your stupid imperialist American neighbors! Viva la Revolucion!!!

You guys actually allowed in Cuba yet? People only fly to the US for high end operations. The likes of which the average American I doubt can afford or are covered for so not really worth shouting about.

While Castro was a despot, the sad fact is life for rural Cubans, especially those of African descent, actually improved a bit under Castro. Not near enough to justify him or his actions, but they were his foundation of support.
