To all my Cuban friends, first the bad news: You'll live in grinding poverty under the authoritarian rule of a madman masquerading as a leftist revolutionary (which is a front for enriching himself, his family, and his closest comrades who live in relative grandeur while you scrape by on pennies a day). Oh, the ruling government class will not hesitate to kill you should you choose to exercise a basic human right to live elsewhere.

The good news: free mediocre healthcare for life.

While Castro was a despot, the sad fact is life for rural Cubans, especially those of African descent, actually improved a bit under Castro. Not near enough to justify him or his actions, but they were his foundation of support.
