Nope, they just gotta find a way to try and ruin it (acquire Freeman) so instead of having the worst record, we win juuuust enough games to put us at 3rd or 4th from the top pick.

Just a brilliant idea, mediocrity lovers....

Can't you just be patient for 12 friggin more games and the prize should be ours?!?!?!??

Gotta get them extra meaningless wins in a losing season ta be happy I guess...

Even if Freeman is a free agent, Jax should avoid him.
I'd say wait till June. Sign him have him, Blaine, Matt Scott fight for the right...to be the 3rd string QB.

I'm pretty confident we draft 2 QBs this season

Quote:Bingo. I think signing him in the offseason would be an ideal situation for Cincinnati.

I kinda like the fit in KC. Let him sit behind Alex Smith for a year or two.

Cincy would be good too.

For me, it's not about not being patient for 12 games.

It's about not allowing the NFL to become the NBA when it comes to tanking. The appeal of the NBA for me has gone down as super-teams started to be formed, and tanking became more prevalent.

Arizona is a good landing spot for Freeman, or maybe Minnesota or even St Louis.

Then fix it AFTER we get our Teddy.

Sorry, but at this point, we been bad for too long to suffer without finally getting the "prize".

its simply our turn to be lucky for a change!!!

So we're tanking because we didn't trade for Josh Freeman?

Jacksonville trading for Josh Freeman would be basically fixing the QB situation with Duct tape.  He'll win a few games each year, never enough for the Jags to be in position to get their QB, but never enough to be in the playoffs.  Jags then have to suffer through Freeman until they're finally able to get the solution.  But hey!  Jags won't be the worst team in the NFL at least!  No some other team that also needs a QB will be, and they'll go on to have success.  Because they deserve it more apparently.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

He's 25 years old and has almost 14,000 yards and 80 TD passes. A 7th round pick is a bargain even with the baggage. We will likely be in the position to draft an elite prospect at QB next year, so not for us though.

I agree that in addition to drafting Teddy (hopefully) that the Jags should acquire a veteran to serve as a bridge until Teddy is ready to take the reins full time. Granted, Teddy might be able to take the reins of the starting job by game 1, so its more for insurance purposes. But I would hope that the Jags aim higher character wise, for the backup than Freeman. I'd think we would want a good example of how to lead from the veteran, which Freeman from most accounts, does not possess.

When one win can be the difference between landing a franchise QB and NOT landing a franchise QB in the 2014 draft, I say we stick with the guys we've got to make certain nobody can steal that pick from us.  Trading for Freeman puts landing that coveted draft pick in jeopardy.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Precisely.

I don't want to bring anyone else in for this season. Sink or swim with who we got.

Get the 1st overall pick and then finally start rebuilding the right way, with an actual legit franchise QB.

Ah, the character issue is a good point. I was thinking along the lines of working out something with Freeman where we acquire him for the 7th, then IR him with a phony injury thereby continuing with the 2 losers we currently have.

Next year we start with JF out of the gate and work in TB (hopefully)by mid-season.

When you trade for Josh Freeman and win just three games a year, you can't draft your QB of the future.

When you can't draft your QB of the future, you stick with the QB you traded for

When you stick with the QB you traded for, you still fail to make the playoffs

When you still fail to make the playoffs, you trade for another team's backup

When you trade for another team's backup, you become mediocre

And when you become Mediocre, you become the Jaguars of the Shack Harris Era.

Don't become the Jaguars of the Shack Harris era.  Get rid of Blaine Gabbert and upgrade to Teddy Bridgewater.

I really hate this logic. So did winning a few games with a "mediocre QB" stop the Ravens, the Niners, the Seahawks, the Falcons, the Dolphins, the Bengals, the Steelers etc from finding their franchise QB?

To expand on that how many "franchise QBs" were 1st overall picks anyways?

Unless you plan on keeping him for next year and beyond, what is the point?

KC is paying Chase Daniel too much money to be the backup to bring in Freeman.

He doesn't fit Reid's system anyway. Much more suited to Arians in Arizona or he could always go to Oakland like all the other headcases in the league.
