Romo speaks

#21

I haven't been following this too closely.  What's his contract situation for 2017?  Would we have to trade for him?

Yes, the Jaguars need to open up the checkbook to a 36 year old quarterback that's been unable to stay healthy behind a good line.

I have a feeling the Cowboys are going to crash and burn under Dak, or he will have a serious sophomore slump.

I hate the Cowboys because my dad did when they had Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Leon Lett, and some other bad human beings.

He was rushed back the second time which was the biggest culprit. By the time hed get to us he would have been resting for about 10 months correct? Unless he plays this season which i doubt. Id say thats enough time to properly heal and after that our medical staff can take a look, if they deem him healthy enough to take a hit then were all good.

Team doctors knew they were rushing him back too soon. They warned him before the Dolphins game he could break it again. When i saw Tony Romo go down on Thanksgiving I wondered why he was active for the game.

NY JETS have a history of picking up veteran QBs.

Just to name a few:

Esiason

Testaverde

Favre

Fitzpatrick (not that he's on the level as the other guys,, but you get my point).

IF Romo were to go to another team, there would be a few competitors, and the NYJ would be one of them.

No suggestion for this team should be laughed at if you think about it. We aren't in a position to laugh at any suggestion to be honest.

I disagree. You need a franchise QB. Not an old guy who may have a year or two left. What if Romo came to Jax and had one or two good years before returning? Then what?

I'm not saying Romo is the answer, but I do know that we may in fact not have a franchise QB. Depending on how the season ends, I think we need to take a QB project in the 2nd or 3rd round and I just thought Romo would be a good stop gap between that. Isn't calling his back a ticking time bomb the same as Myles Jack's knee? You just never know.

The timing may be off though because next year is the year they will need to determine if they are picking up Bortles 5th year option, so its all moot, but fun to think about.

Unfortunately when it all pans out, I think Romo stays in Texas, and not Dallas.

Yeah, Romo is getting up there in age for a QB.

But, he didn't play last season (remember the backup QB carousel they used last year?). And, he isn't going to play this season.

2 full seasons of not even playing has positives and negatives.

-It "kind-of" offsets his age for a couple years.

-Although, not playing in 2 years might have a lot of rust built up in him.

He'd be a really good "stop-gap" QB for a year or two while another QB on the bench is groomed to get back in after he's ready.

Say what you will about Bortles, but he'd be an excellent backup QB at this point. Give him a season or two backing up Romo. Bortles recalibrates his mechanics,, studies film and decision-making, and then comes back ready when it's his time to take it back over.

He did play last year....I was at the game where Thomas Davis sacked him on Thanksgiving and broke his rib (or whatever it was). I get what you're saying, but the reason he hasn't had much time is because he's been injured. It's not like he's just sitting there in game shape but not seeing action.

I actually think Bortles is good. Obviously he's had a bad year, but it's too early to pull the plug on him (in my non-Jags fan opinion).

Making Bortles a backup is admitting front office failure. If that were to happen, the GM would have to be fired.

He rebroke his left collarbone on that play.

Yeah,, maybe that's true.

However, Andy Reid benched McNabb early one season when McNabb looked awful. It seemed to work after McNabb was brought back in.

Bortles looks dreadful right now. Maybe, just maybe a reason he hasn't been benched for a while to regroup is to look at the QBs on the bench behind him. Henne and Allen? Geez.

If another QB on the roster was even just a little better than those two guys, Bortles may have been pulled at halftime in one of these games to try and get him "regrouped".

It's very hard to pull Bortles for Henne (even when it's clear BB is mightily struggling).

The Cowboys medical staff cleared him to play in the pre-season. How'd that work out?

This guy has had his back surgically repaired...twice.  You don't see that as an issue for a football player?
