TJ Yeldon - His last year as Jag?
|
I could see Ivory accepting a smaller contract to stay, he looks to be enjoying his football, less workload but more success playing the 1-2 with Fournette.

I'm fine with the trio we have now, Fournette, Ivory and Grant. If Ivory leaves after the season, we can draft a RB in the later rounds. Yeldon should just move along.
Yeldon types are a dime a dozen. '02 is right, nobody's giving up a pick for that guy. An offensive lineman with that 2nd rounder may have been a better choice with Marrone coaching him up under Coach Sprink.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

He'd be the most talented RB on any of their rosters
Can we trade him to the Eagles?

Unfortunately, the Indy GM already traded a 1st round pick for another Bama Bust RB in Richardson so I don't think he's allowed to pull the same idiotic move again per the NFL Bargaining Agreement

It all depends on his productivity when he sees the field. If he continues to attempt his poor-man's Leveon Bell impersonation and dances around too much behind the line, he could conceivably play his way off the roster. But if he makes some decisive cuts and gets upfield quicker, then I see zero reason not to keep him around. He's under contract in 2018 pretty cheap. They'll definitely continue to add better run blockers to this O-Line next offseason and that will only help the depth RBs like Yeldon. Now, he could still be beat out in camp next offseason, but I don't think they just move on before giving him that chance.

Yeldon has another year on his 4 year deal, at $1.2m base salary. He'd only be a $600k savings if you cut him at the end of the season, as he has about $600k dead money. He's a good utility/backup RB, and knows the system. I think he's got another year on this team, unless someone trades for him (which I doubt he would have much, if any, trade value).
You know things must be good in Jaguars Land when the top subject of discussion is T.J Yeldon.....
I'm glad we don't have bigger problems to worry about. We've had a series of catastrophes for seven years, so no complaints here about the subject matter. All for keeping him for insurance as long as he isn't a financial burden. (09-28-2017, 03:14 PM)ATLjag Wrote: Yeldon has another year on his 4 year deal, at $1.2m base salary. Simply put, he's on the roster to start next year's training camp. Beyond that it's anybody's guess if he makes the top 53 for 2018.

And his production in NE can't just be conveniently ignored. He signed cheap this year because he's a 30 year old RB. That's the type of contract they get nowadays.
His value is pretty low given our current stable of backs. He can do just about everything at an average level. My guess is we won't see much from him barring injury.
No pain, no gain.
