Impressions From The Steelers Game

Afree with you. He's not been poor to start the season just let himself get picked on by QB's and became the focal point for the other teams passing game. Lot better yesterday and the pass D looks scary strong. Let's not forget this team was one game from the SB last year and while they may be having some locker room trouble, yesterday was the kind of game the Steelers would win big and suddenly everything looks better.

I felt this was a perfect game to gave after the Jets, we threw that game away but @ Pittsburgh would show how much fight and belief they have. After 4 years of Gus, I'm so happy with the fight once his team. How many times did we hear 'everyone is angry in the locker room and next week we play exactly the same.

Sadly Bortles seems to be falling back a bit more each week. The guy is trying and I credit him for that but we can't put a game on his arm. If anything, the better the rest of the team is getting, the weaker Bortles looks.

We just need him to do his best Trent Dilfer impression from the '01 Ravens team!

2.  Another way the Trading Places theme was recalled today was in the running game.  For years, the Steelers were known as the ultimate run the ball/stop the run team.  Meanwhile, since MJD retired, the Jaguars could not consistently run the ball, and up until today, the Jaguars could not stop the run at all.  Not today.  Great showing by the Jaguars run offense today, rushing for 230 yards in Pittsburgh.  Closing the game with what...19 straight rushing plays in a row...not passing since about the 8 minute mark of the 3rd quarter?!?  I don't think I've seen anything like that in the NFL, and I started watching before the 1978 rules changed that opened up the passing game.  I've only seen things like that in the college wishbone era.  I think it is fitting that FT and Fournette both had their biggest rushing games to date in Pukesburgh!  Meanwhile, Bell did not kill us in the running game.

Nice analogy -- love the creative thinking !!

SPORTSLINE COMPUTER MODEL:

With Week 5 already here, the computer simulated every matchup 10,000 times and came up with some surprising results.

One team it loves: the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are 7.5-point favorites against the Jaguars. The model is calling for the Steelers to cover comfortably, 26-16, and they're winning 73 percent of simulations. SportsLine's model is calling for 240 yards and two touchdowns from Ben Roethlisberger and over 100 total yards for Le'Veon Bell.

Welp! So much for computer models........I prefer Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Models anyway.

I think something that's been overlooked regarding yesterday's game is Nortman pinning them at or inside their own 5 twice in the first half and inside the 20 a couple of other times during the game.  That type of field position enables our defense to shine and get turnovers which is exactly what happened.  I think if Pittsburgh would have been able to go up by two scores in the first half this could have been a completely different game as we saw what happened to us against Tennessee when they went up 2 scores in the 3rd quarter.

We broke Marino. I hope we broke Roethlisberger too.

The ball just sounds different coming off his foot.  A real difference maker.  Worth a 3rd round pick for sure.

Agreed, he doesn't have the voice or word play to be an announcer. Heard calls from around the league today from a bunch of the teams games and he stuck out so badly.

I guess no one counted on him actually being heard on national media.

We should acknowledge how completely idiotic the Steelers gameplan was too. The tweet below was made right when Telvin took the 2nd INT to the house. It obviously got worse from there. Thank god Tomlin turned into Gus Bradley for at least one Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers just can't think logically or rationally:
JAC #1 pass D
JAC #32 run D
Ben: 33 attempts (2 INTs, 52 RTG)
Bell: 12 carries

I agree with this.

It appears that once Telvin Smith had the pick 6, the Steelers panicked and went completely away from the run, even though they were still very much in the game immediately at that point.

Yup, Bell had 10 touches for 52 yards after 1 quarter and only touched it 15 times total afterwards. Real surprised they didn't try to lean on him after they took the 9-7 lead in the 3rd quarter. Oh well our gain.

Without indicting Tomlin as a head coach, I will say his predecessor, Cowher, was a master at going in at halftime and recommitting to the running game when his team was behind but still in the game.

I really miss the days of the Jags/Steelers annual meetups. Man those were fun times. And though I didn't get to watch the game I followed here on the gameday thread and was excited to read how well our D was doing. I especially liked the comment of how the Steelers fans had their towels to cry into. Hahaha.

I am hoping this Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde business will stop and Mr Hyde comes out and whips everyone's butts from here on out.

Thank you for the great write up and analogy!
