Because you need an ID to apply for and receive your benefits, right? The argument is always that poor people don't have identification because they can't afford it, but you need identification to apply for any kind of public assistance, to prove who you are when you use your Medicaid card...etc. Unless you're homeless or illegal, you can't get through life without having identification. Why should voting be any different?

Then Republicans make up reasons to make people believe Democrats are the frauds. I always opposed voter ID laws because they reduce voter turnout.

 

If you look at the predominance of voter fraud being reported (that democrats say doesn't exist), it's linked to democrats almost exclusively.  Not entirely, but the vast majority (democrats deny it exits).  

 

You have always opposed the basic requirement of someone proving they are who they say they are by providing an ID?  I know the Mark Brunells on this board say it is disenfranchisement, but you need an ID to cash a check, buy alcohol, drive a car, and in many instances, to use a credit card.  You need your ID in all sorts of circumstances to prove you are who you say you are, and rightfully so.  State issued IDs are not so difficult to obtain that this oppresses anyone's ability to vote, but you still oppose requiring someone to prove they are who they say they are?

 

Suppose someone comes to your house, knocks on your door, and says he's the cable guy there to fix a problem with the wiring in your house.  Do you let him in because he says he's the cable guy?  Or, do you look for some form of ID?

If they don't have an ID to prove who they are, those provisional ballots are the only way they can cast a ballot.  Simple fix.  Bring a stinking ID with you.  As I pointed out, it's not difficult to get one and the cost is minimal, and in some instances, completely free.

 

I guess in your little world, we should just take their word for it that they are who they say they are, right?  I'm sure nobody would dare lie about such things, right?

The only way a provisional ballot is not counted is if they are unable to verify that the person is eligible to vote in the first place.

I don't know about other places, but when I go vote I always present my voter ID card as well as a photo ID.

When I went to vote last week, I had to provide my driver's license, which was promptly swiped, and my information was verified.  I feel so disenfranchised.

My whole point is before there was a voter ID law, it was guaranteed all votes would count. Republicans knowingly made votes not count by making voters present IDs. It was clearly a partisan move to take away our democracy.
