I watched that play a few times and I disagree. I couldn't hear any whistle and Brissett was still moving his legs trying to escape, which suggests he hadn't heard a whistle either. Yanick finished him off and then the Ref's bowed to Brissetts protests once he was down for me. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I don't like the call, as Brissett was still churning his legs, but the flag flew before he had a chance to do his Tom Brady impersonation.

I felt the same. If a QB wants to be treated like Peyton Manning they should go down like Peyton Manning, which is at the first sniff of contact. Brissett never stopped fighting and we've seen where letting up on a QB gets you many times in the NFL. Either the rule needs to be changed to automatically go for a sack whenever a defender gets any hold on a QB whatsoever, even just a fist full of Jersey, or a QB needs to be fair game to the ground unless he gives himself up. Fighting to stay up right should preclude any roughing flag that isn't for some other infraction like helmet to helmet. Also anyone else annoyed by the sudden focus on horsecollar tackles against Myles Jack? Grabbing a guy but not taking him down shouldn't be a penalty. Here's the actual rule: https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl...se-collar/ |
