Why?? The coach will do the same thing it was his way in Buffalo get a lead and play not to lose. Their faith in BB5 has nothing to do with how conservative they went they got scared and curled up to run run pass punt. Against the squeelers they had faith in him plenty. The doubt is not in bb5 or his ability its in their hearts and mind they don't have the killer attitude the team has the coaches need to get on the train to run ppl over not sit on the side with their thumbs up their butts.

Don't take this the wrong way, blakes far superior to Tim Teblow in everyway possible.

But just because you are a QB in the playoffs don't mean you were the reason. Our D and run game carried us, if Blake was half compitent we would have won every game this year with ease.

Hate to bring up Tebows name cuz he's hot trash and shouldn't ever be mentioned but the scenario was similar, defense and a run game carrier both teams, blake was better than Tebow by a mile but not a franchise QB, just a game manager this year.

I think you are so wildly far off base on this narrative.

Also don't doubt he could still progress with better weapons, but deshaun watson on our team and we win the SB hands down.

Defense gave up 24+ in 6 of the 7 losses. They were just as inconsistent. Did anyone watch the Steelers game? There were games where the defense was dominant and the offense was just as dominant. The Jags had a top 5 offense this season.

I mean the offense is going to get that YPG Skewed when your defense gets turnovers every other drive lol

Deshaun Watson on the team instead of Bortles means Chad Henne is leading us in the playoffs. Part of Bortles value is that he rarely misses a snap.

I was impressed by his composure and by about 70% of his throws.

The other 30%... eh... not so much.

As I mentioned in another thread, his performance was the epitome of that old adage:
"You can win games with this guy, but he's not gonna' lead you to a championship."

Keep him while it's working and keep coaching him up, but you also have to keep looking for an upgrade that doesn't force you to water down your playbook - and make your OC scared to death to throw an out route from his own 10 yard line for fear of the pick 6.

So you think no matter the QB, we would of kneel the ball at the end of the first half with 55 sec left and 2 time outs?

I think the best you can hope for on this topic is that Coughlin gets in Marrone's ear and says:

"Let's cut out this mamby-pamby playing not to lose crap and keep our foot on the damn gas offensively! No matter who the QB is."

That's what I'm praying for at this point.

Yes its marones style he did pretty much the same in Buffallo. he is a run offense with good defnse coach does not like to sling it, he like to run run run.

No disrespect to you NYC, I generally agree with you a lot. But I just have a wildly different take on Bortles and the staff's confidence in him than you do. To each their own.

He redeemed himself this year for the most part. I’m especially surprised with how he handled the playoffs. I thought the stage may be too big for him. If they keep him next year, I’ll be ok with it. I’m just glad I’m not the one making the decisions.

Blake played amazing.  It is like watching something special develop before your eyes.  Clearly they king in they had to rebuild aspects of his game, and we are now seeing it come to fruition.  Upgrades to the receiving core and receiving TE could yield big dividends going forward.

Well Done BB5!

He's physically and mentally tough, athletic and works hard at his craft. He still lacks in consistent accuracy and seems to lack field vision at times. He has a lot of the qualities you'd like in a QB though, and played well for most of December and against Pittsburgh and NE. I'd like to see the Jags sign him to a short term extension at a reasonable contract and see if his growth continues. I think if your Coughlin/Caldwell you have to consider contingency plans too.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Yall need to drop this he isnt good enough. he has already shown he is good enough. He just put up the exact same numbers as Tom Brady in a AFC championship game. There is no upgrade to him out there that is available. There is no way you turn over a superbowl ready team to a rookiee. BB5 is progressing along better then any of the QBs drafted in the couple years before him or the same year as him. QB is not our problem.Conservitive play calling and playing not to lose is. When your foot is on the gas you keep it there you dont hit the brakes and curl up to run run pass punt.

While Blake is never going to be Brady, I think he may be a guy who can do some pretty special things for this franchise.  It'll be interesting to see how the front office views him.  If they value the locker room support, it's a no brainer that he's your starter next year.  If he continues to work and make strides, I think that's well deserved.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

No matter how you slice it....

Yesterday, in the AFC Championship Game, Blake Bortles was the BEST player on the field.

Regardless of how we think we want him to play week in and week out, when the chips are on the table, you want your QB to be the best player on the field... He was.

This team could do a lot worse at the most important position in the game than the guy they have spent the last four years grooming to become the guy he was yesterday.

Is he perfect? No

Did he get the job done? Better than 29 other guys this year.

Did he get help from his defense? Yes, and so did those other guys.

The point? Right now he is the guy, and HE EARNED IT!

Blake's best attributes are his work ethic and attitude. He is a guy that every single fan of the team wants to root for and he is a guy that every player wants to play for. He does everything right and we all seriously pull for the guy. Problem is we all see that he has serious limitations as a QB. If he had any sort of red flags.. or even a yellow.. outside of his play he would be gone. Maybe with a better O-line it'll work out in the future. It helps that Marrone wants to be a run first team. They'll build around the run and likely go after a TE high in the draft. Having Arob back will help as well.
