The future is still bright and we still have a window

We're not going anywhere if our new QB is forced to fit into anything close to the crappy system that was made for Bortles. I question how much influence Marrone had on the direction of the offense. I know he is a fan of running vs passing. Since he's coming back, I feel like he would clash with any system that isn't as safe as run, run, pass punt. The FO realized after his awful 2016 that there was no such thing as an offense that Bortles could excel in, but they weren't ready to take the blow to their ego/legacy and admit they missed, so they did the worst thing possible...draft a RB top 5, pay a guard top 5 OL money, and try like hell to hide the QB as much as possible.
The Jags pedestrian offense is awful, predictable, and easily defended. This has to change. Zero creativity, yah, yah, injuries. I get it. Yep, [BLEEP]-a-brick with QB extension.
Porous OL, mediocre WRs, pathetic TEs, confused secondary, no force at MLB, inexcusable penalties, and a lack of discipline across the board. The rest of the AFC South are so far ahead of this team. IMO, the most disappointing season in franchise history. (12-30-2018, 01:22 PM)Upper Wrote:(12-30-2018, 11:57 AM)Flagler Jagsfan Wrote: This is key. The receivers are not good, no TE and most of the line is not good. Linder and Fournette are good but miss more games than they play. We show less advertisements to registered users. But saying that we'll sign 2 or 3 key free agents when we won't have enough cap space to even retain our own free agents? Heck, we're going to have to cut several players just to create enough cap room to sign the draft class, and let's not forget that Jack, Ramsey, and Yannick are going to need contract extensions and that will cost quite a bit. From Wikepdia: Currently, the thirteen different opponents each team faces over the 16-game regular season schedule are set using a pre-determined formula:[6]
2019 Schedule
Home: Colts (10-6) Titans (9-7) Texans (11-5) Jets (4-12) Bengals (6-10) Bucs (5-11) Saints (13-3) Chiefs (12-4) Away: Titans Colts Texans Panthers (7-9) Falcons (7-9) Raiders (4-12) Chargers (12-4) Broncos (6-10)
I'm not so convinced.
By the time they fix the offense, the defense isn't going to be what you saw last year and this year. Vets will be gone, good players will be let go (see Fowler) as contracts come up... The time was now, but now is gone. Now they'll have to balance holding together/restocking the defense while completely overhauling the offense. Things haven't been this fragile in a couple years (out of what began as a three year or so window.)

Rebuild now while our defensive weapons will be in their 2nd and 3rd years next year.
