Yannick Ngakoue skipping mandatory mini camp

Shameful. I was in a restaurant yesterday that was showing a replay of the 2017 AFC Championship game. I turned my back. It still hurts too much. We show less advertisements to registered users. They gave all that money to an average at best Nick Foles, all because of 3 games, yet they're playing hardball with the best young pass rusher this franchise has ever had... What a joke.
Even his teammates are speaking out.... [BLEEP] PAY THE MAN RIGHT NOW.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions. There is really nothing to indicate that the team is "playing hardball" with him or his agent. He's got to do what he feels will be better for his future. I'm sure it will be sorted out over the next few days or even the next few weeks.
Just my personal opinion but I dislike when players decide to hold out while being under contract. I understand why they do and don't blame them, it's just something that I would never even think of doing. I'm sure when it all plays out he will get what he deserves and the team can move on. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. (06-10-2019, 04:37 PM)jagibelieve Wrote: I'm not going to jump to conclusions. They should just do away with the entire multi year deal concept altogether in the new CBA as the latter years almost always get thrown out anyway.

Jones-Drew ended up holding out for business reasons, and by the time they finally worked something out he was done. He ended up showing up out of shape, and I recall him being virtually useless that season. The same thing happened when Tony Brackens held out. Yannick Ngakoue is 24 years old. MJD held out during the summer of 2012 coming off a heavy season of workload at the age of 27 at a much more physically demanding position on an offense that ABSOLUTELY demanded production at the position. He took a beating for this team. Had he not had the injuries he would have been better off. His last year in Jacksonville wasn't too terrible. Had he seen his regular amount of 300+ touches on the ground he would have more than likely had over 1500 yards of total offense that year. Brackens was also 27 when he had his injury. You could make the argument, at least from a historical point of view that this team would be getting AHEAD of a potential injury and downward spiral in production by extending him now at 24 for 3 - 5 years instead of drawing this out as much as they possibly can. And I still think Brackens played in a much more grittier era of football. It certainly added to his injuries or injury. Now they have better rules in place to pretty much try and protect everybody. Rehabbing and recovering methods have also been much improved upon since Brackens played. Not too concerned. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I don't see how missing this mini camp will help him get a contract. Training camp in July may increase pressure to work out a deal but this no pad three days will not push the team to pursue contract negotiations. If anything it will piss off Tom. My personal opinion is showing up would have been a much better option to show the team his respect for the organization. Maybe I am wrong but missing these three days is counterproductive. If a contract was not finished for training camp then a hold out may force the team to the table.

If a contract was not finished for training camp then a hold out may force the team to the table. Depends on how you want to look at it. After LeVeon Bell had his way last year and after what happened to Earl Thomas with that leg injury in Seattle? I can see why players have a few crucial points about getting paid NOW instead of waiting until LATER when you never know what might happen during practice or during a live game. I honestly wouldn't mind them getting this deal done ASAP. Because ultimately each year we keep seeing players getting paid more and more money and you start seeing "so-so" guys getting hefty pay increases when their production looks "so-so" on paper next to our guy. Need to try and stay ahead of the market at that position while we can. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Granted he could come to camp if he WANTS, but I'm sure his agent is orchestrating things.

Somehow the league and payers union need to get these contracts under control, its destroying team's ability to keep good players and in my opinion, going to affect the quality of play. Looking at our team how do you keep Yan, Calais, Ramsey, Jack, Talvin, Darius under the cap, I don't think one player is worth 30 mil a year and that's where it's headed. If the NFL is making that much revenue then they need to increase the cap so teams can keep their players.(06-10-2019, 04:56 PM)dennisp3 Wrote: I don't see how missing this mini camp will help him get a contract. He held out because on a legitimately talentless 2011 Jaguars team (basically him and Justin Blackmon) he led the league in rushing while playing through a knee injury the last few games (I believe it was a meniscus tear) He held out because his play on offense warranted it (bc yk.. rushing title; and he did it with minimal help) he held out, eventually caved thinking the front office would do right by him, and then suffered a linsfranc injury 6 games into the season. In those 6 games prior to the linsfranc injury (which essentially derailed/ended his career) he had the highest yards per carry of his career (4.8 ypc) with the exception of his rookie year (5.7 ypc as Fred's backup). That Jags team may have been useless (we were led by Mike Mularkey and Blaine Gabbert) but MJD was not. MJD should actually be living proof that Yannick SHOULD hold out because the injury risk is not worth affecting your contract/future earnings.
Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

I do think a deal will get done but if he want to play hard ball we could too and just franchise him next year and even the year after if we wanted too. If a contract was not finished for training camp then a hold out may force the team to the table. It’s injury protection. No reason to put your body at risk if the team isn’t willing to give you the security. I fully expect him to hold out in camp as well if no progress is made.

I see a lot of pay da man.
Is everyone comfortable making Yan the highest paid defender? If im his agent, thats my price. If im the team, im trying to save as much as possible and maybe making him the 4th(hypothetical) highest defender. Remember negotiations take 2 sides and it takes time landing in the middle somewhere
The issue here is that the front office can’t decide who they are.
“Work hard and earn your keep.... well unless we need to pay you.... then I don’t know... unless you’re a bottom feeding QB who threw 2 TD passes in 3 playoff games combined and in one game couldn’t crack 100 passing yards... then we will pay you” Yan has earned every penny he’s going to get. Great locker room guy, plays a premium position and is in his prime |
