Jaguars vs Saints preseason week 2

I wanna see us stop a screen.

I wanna see walker Little getting some starting tackle time on the right side maybe.

If this can't happen it's going to be a long year.

Will the defense get pressure on the Saints QB and will we be able to defend against the run and simultaneously not get picked apart in the secondary?

I think everyone was hoping to see these things last week after a year's drought of not winning. But we were flat. Only a preseason game, right? This game will be a chance to show everyone a little fire power. Nationally televised game, so I know that Urban will be actually trying to not be embarrassed. If we can't put up some numbers, it won't be for a lack of trying. Which would then raise some further questions.

I'm actually rooting for his ego to get the better of him. Lol. Not too much, but enough that he sets them loose a bit and we don't look like we have for a long, long time.

oh the anticipation.... for you that are looking for major line changes spoiler alert. The starters I estimate will remain the same on the o-line. Where you may see changes is a series or two in. Experience for a Tackle is a good thing and watching can help.

So finally a whole team performance that gives hope for the regular season? Or sane old sub par?

1. The pass rush. We need to come up with some blitz schemes that actually work. We blitzed quite a bit last week, but we didn't get anywhere near their QB's. It looked like they could've sat back there in the pocket and skimmed through their e-mails before passing the ball. I don't think we should panic after one preseason game, but if it happens again, it will be a little concerning.

2. I'm not expecting our O-Line to suddenly look rock solid. That's not gonna happen. We currently have a lack of talent with our starting OT's and it is what it is. With that said, I'd like to see us lean heavily on quick screens and play action passes where Trevor rolls out and throws on the run. We finally have a mobile QB with an accurate arm. In order to deal with the poor pass protection, this could be a way of moving the ball without getting him killed in the process. The Saints secondary has been decimated in the offseason and they lost their best pass rusher to free agency and replaced him with a rookie. This should be a good shot for us to kick start the offense a bit and give us a quick peek at what we have in store, without showing too much.

The two bolded bits are incongruent.

Cullen isn't going to put his good [BLEEP] on tape in August.  And I'm sure the play action and rollouts you're hoping for fall under the same category for Bevell.

Meyer said last week his coordinators were adamant about not revealing their playbooks. I wouldn't expect any fireworks until September.

100% to all this. It's preseason. Everyone gets excited because football is back and forgets that ever year. In the words of Allen Iverson, to an extent, "we talkin' bout practice. Not the game."

Yup!

If next weekend is the dress rehearsal, I don't see much happening this week. No gameplan, just work through some plays that worked in practice, and frankly I expect  the subs to be early and often. But nationally televised game, right?

I am not worried about this game, I want to see how everyone handles next weekend, from the coaches on down. Tonight will be about the guys at the bottom clawing their way onto the roster, or getting enough decent film to land on a PS somewhere.

Yeah I think week 1 will let us know how we stand. If we get spanked by a bad Houston team, then we will know that we are in trouble.

I read last week in one of the Meyer interviews that he was planning on game-planning some this week, as well as next week. Why only have one dress-rehearsal, preparing as if you were going into a regular season game, when you can have 2? That was his logic behind it anyway.
I expect the same ole vanilla plays, but at least it should look a little better.

No Josh Allen tonight...place on covid list.

My biggest concern coming into this season was the offensive line, and how well it would protect Lawrence. That's what I want to see tonite - does Lawrence get the protection he needs. If they aren't any better than last year . . . it's either going to be a very long season for Trevor, or a very short one.

[BLEEP]. Wasn't even thinking. I have bowling tonight and it's for first place and extra money. Oh well, just set the DVR.

It's only preseason after all.  I'll be asleep and watch it some time tomorrow.

That's fine, I want to see more of Chaisson, Aaron Patrick and Jordan Smith anyways. Patrick made some plays in the Browns game.

We need Allen ready for game 1 and beyond, not so much the preseason.

I want to see a TD out of Lawrence if nothing else.

A TD drive in the Super Dome would be awesome.

Dilla said it the other day but if Trevor struggles (after how good Wilson and others looked), Jags Twitter will be insufferable.

Yup, there will be plenty of eyes on this game, considering all the other rookie QBs played their 2nd games already. Any little mistake Lawrence makes will be amplified x10 by twitter and talking heads.

love seeing the Robinson and Jack battles, 2 great players making each other better

I like the adding the white stripe to the QB helmet to see where the QB is looking/teach him to look off the S.

Seems so simple but good.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Sounds like both Lawrence and Minshew will get around 25 plays each tonight.

Man, channel four is really talking this game up as if it means a damn thing. “Battle in the Big Easy”?  Is this the Super Bowl?

Are we calling this the gameday thread?

Had a few days since the Browns game, interested to see what we have been working on.
