If you take a blow to the head and lose conciousness, you have a concussion. Getting hit in the chin/jaw, the temple/ear, or the base of the skull is the easiest way to cause brain trauma aka a concussion.

Getting hit in the jaw will rattle your skull which in turn will rattle the brain. So aim there. If you didn't hit with enough force to knock them down then at least it will throw their balance off.

A concussion is defined as mild traumatic brain injury. If you take a blow to the head it can cause brain injury. If you are knocked unconscious from that blow, that is a sure sign that you suffered some form of brain injury. Every fighter who gets knocked out has a concussion. The severity of the concussion can range from waking up with a mild headache, to confusion, to long term migraines, light sensitivity, to death.
