2022 Secondary

This is encouraging, as I know last year he seemed to struggle outside of zone coverage. Hopefully the game is slowing and he can be a long time fixture in our secondary. Been a while since we had that.

Latter in the year he got better.  I think he will be a good corner this year in any defenses we run.

That would be so not #becausejaguars, and an unexpected surprise to me.  I mean, the guy couldn't track the deep ball last year, which was his knock coming out of college, but he seems to have figured some things out.  After going through Moncrief, I didn't think that was something that could be fixed - if a deep speed receiver can't figure out how to track a deep ball in a sprint, how could a DB do it??  I've definitely seen him make some plays on long passes in some of the vids coming out of training camp - passes he whiffed on consistently last year.

Awesome news Smile

Reviving this thread to update with week one impressions.

Jenkins and Griffin both looked pretty bad vs WFT
Griffin is getting PAID. Gotta step up.

Unfortunately, Cisco had a moment or two of not looking ready as well - and Campbell showed us he still has work to do if the play isn't "in front of him" to be made. Ball tracking and his timing playing the ball instead of the route have to improve.

Griffin looked bad, but the TD he gave up wasnt 100% on him if we're being fair. The safety in a cover 2 HAS to get over faster in the NFL. There's no excuse for being beat down the sideline in cover 2 without safety help.

Jenkins got an interception
Cisco had 1
Jenkins got 1

Campbell got his last week against the Commanders. Gotta get Griffin on the board next week.

Oh, and both of our 1st round picks has a pick.

I hope they release Griffin after this year, the production has dipped but we also need the cap space. We still need another cut or two to make room for Josh Allen’s new contract

What's funny is the Packes drafted the wrong guy before us 2 years in a row lol. Last year they took Stokes over Campbell which was a mistake and this year they took Walker over Lloyd which was a mistake. 3 of them went to Georgia

Well, it could be worse, we could have Stokes or Fenton at CB's. Griffin is bad, but he's average bad, and he's just average in getting targeted. It certainly seems he was picked on more last game than in any previous game to this point. Not worth what we are paying him tho.

At this point Allen isn't a guy we have to have.

I agree with this. He's just been "okay". Not the unstoppable force of nature off the edge we were all hoping for or expecting. Unless he starts reeling off a hot steak and hits double digit sacks I don't think you have to consider signing him up for the long term.

Once you clear the cap space off the books with Griffin, Robertson-Harris, Jenkins, Jones & Engram it more than likely becomes financially feasible to tag him and keep him for another year or trade him away like they did Ngakoue.

At this point you could probably sign Chandler Jones in the off season for a modest price, considering he's not really doing much out in Vegas and that will get you by for at least a year until you can draft another replacement.

What was is Vic liked to say?  I wouldn't worry about that.

While he's got time to prove the deal wrong, he costs more to keep (in both cap hit and performance) than to cast off. Unless he flips a magical shutdown corner switch by the end of the year, he's all but gone.

In which universe is Griffin playing on our team next year?

Not going to happen unless he really, really turns things around.

I don't think they'll keep him after this year. His contract technically doesn't expire until 2024 but there's no way they can keep him at that cap hit with those types of issues in the secondary.

Looks like his back is injured and there's a good chance he's a healthy scratch this Sunday with Darious Williams getting an opportunity to play outside in his absence. Herndon could also be in play here. He's a free agent next year. Needs to play big to earn big if given an opportunity.

Let's play the Rams game and trade our 1 and 3 in the coming draft plus whatever else it takes to get DJ Moore and Jaycee Horn.

Yeah, he's definitely not lived up to the pre-draft hype or his own expectations at this point.  I expect more from him if he's going to get a second contract...  We picked up his 5th year option, so we don't have to do anything with him yet.

Extremely doubtful they'd trade horn. But I'd see what it takes to get DJ.
