Why I am confident about Tonight's Game

#21

My programming tells me that we're in for a really boring and dull game where we look flat and end up losing. That's just the nature of the Jaguars. People start paying attention to the success we've had and then we just lay an egg. I thought it would be last week, but this is a really quick turnaround it may be hard to get up for this one. Lawrence played well without much practice last time (Ravens), just have to ride 16.

We have a young team that still ebbs and flows, and I think it's best if they stay humble and hungry while we temper expectations. I think we can beat the Jets. I don't expect it, and I'm definitely not confident in it.
While this is true, you don't think Chiefs fans are confident? How about Bills fans?

When you have the QB and coach, you should be confident you can beat anyone.

Do you think Chiefs fans are confident when they play the Bills? Well, I think it would be equally foolish to say we are confident we will beat the Jets as it would be for a Chiefs fan to say they are confident they will beat the Bills. The Jets are 7-7. We are 6-8. This is a fairly evenly matched game. I think we are MUCH better than our record indicates. I think Pederson is a good coach and Trevor is ascending. I also know our defense can struggle at times and keep poor offenses in the game (Texans, anyone?). I also know that Trevor played terribly in our game with poor weather, and we are a young team that makes mistakes. Do we have the tools? Yup. Will things go our way? No clue. I certainly hope so.

I was 91% joking when I said he jinxed it. I don't believe in superstition, but since we're having a debate about it, I just think confident is the wrong word. I absolutely think players need to be confident in their ability. I think they need to believe they can win. I just don't think that's necessarily true for fans and is probably the wrong take, especially against competitive teams in the NFL. It also makes loses harder to swallow, which is clearly a problem around here. Maybe I'm just being a stickler for the meaning of words, but I think it's okay for us to be optimistic without saying we're confident. That's all I say on this subject.

Be confident if you want to. I hope we win.

If we lose the game tonight, it won't be due to some jinx, either preexisting or one you think I triggered with my post.

PTSD remains strong with this fan base I tell ya.

Look, I was one of the only people I know that was saying I thought we had a chance against the Cowboys (to friends and family). Any given Sunday….

I thought we were past “winnable games” this is pro football, everybody is elite.

This one could go either way.

I feel the Jags have a good shot at it.

Will the defense do enough to keep the score in check?
Will the offense secure the football?
