Video of Drob driving into pond

#21

Quote:The video shows just how fortunate he and his passenger were. That very easily could have ended with tragic results.

It wouldn't surprise me if this incident sent up flags that triggered a drug test by the league. It just does t look good.
There is not enough evidence to trigger a drug test outside of normal testing windows especially after the cops on the scene cleared him. It would violate the union contract.

Quote:That would explain it only if his passenger wasn't passed out <del>intoxicated </del> sleep with him. No way two people in the same car are so tired that they don't wake up after jumping a curb, splashing into a pond, and try to go back to sleep when an officer tries to wake you up. Thank God there was no one else in the oncoming lane moving at a high rate of speed or his bad night could have ended a lot worse.

I took a trip with this girl.

I drove back from Florida, going up north.

I drove the 1st 14 hours, then she insisted, after sleeping most of the night, of driving the remaining few hours.

Sure enough, she fell asleep, after I did the same. After plowing through a few lane markers, then a road sign, did I wake up and figure out we were off the highway and headed towards the woods. I only woke up after the dog we brought with us barked and actually startled me awake.

I started yelling ...or she never would have woken up. Only about 5k worth of damage to a truck I hadn't yet had 3 weeks. So be it. I also was lucky to be alive.

It can happen. And does. Sometimes, we all have a bit more confidence in ourselves than we think.

Agreed. I don't know where that came from.

A DUI is a 2nd degree misdemeanor which requires about 3 hours of paper work.

That officers shift was probably wrapping up, so Drob probably caught a break.

Which I'm glad he did. I hope he learned from this and moves forward.

He released the break after a Phillips HWY. Gummy.

I remember a trip in college with a whole bunch of us headed to a competition in a school van. We were taking turns driving, and as everyone else was asleep, both the driver and shotgun (the guy supposed to keep him alert) fell asleep. Very fortunate, he just lost speed and the van went into a snowbank. But it can happen just from sleep deprivation. While a lot of us on the team would drink or get otherwise impaired the driver didn't do any of that. It happens.

Why is everyone drawing equivalency to this with their long road trip story?

Whatever happened to 'no harm no foul'?  Yeah yeah yeah, it "coulda been" a lot of things, but it wasn't.  Thank goodness the rest of us don't do dumb things..

Far worse 'driving skills' demonstrated driving down any highway up here in the NE..

Well, in my case, after reading at least five replies in this thread stating that they believed booze or drugs were involved, some of which said it had to be so, one of which claimed the police were ignoring their duty to avoid paperwork, I thought I would relate my personal experience. Also, like in the situation with Robinson, it was an amusing result that could have been much worse. Basically it isn't an attempt to excuse the situation, but to say yes, you can drive like that solely from exhaustion. People need to take it seriously, as it can lead to the exact same bad driving.

He was definitely intoxicated. JSO is nothing more than a security company. They only uphold the laws they aren't paid to look past.

Im sorry, theres no way a sober person even if if you fell asleep at the wheel would be able to do something like that. He had to of been intoxicated or on some sort of substance. As the video said, an investigation into the officer is going on.

That might have been the least scary car crash I have ever seen.  I laughed during most of it.  Definitely fell asleep at the red light turning lane.  Never understood why these guys don't just hire a driver.

Well there's nothing to suggest that he had just driven down from Michigan and was almost home. In fact, if that were the case I would expect him to have released a statement to that effect by now. Although it's not assured that he was intoxicated, I'd certainly say it is "more probable than not."
