I find it hilarious to see a lib talking about overreach of federal government.  Especially someone who is an advocate for ObamaCare, regulations that have crushed the coal industry, and forced the oil industry to work with older refineries that can't be modernized or expanded.  The same government overreach I'm sure you cheer for when the big daddy tells auto manufacturers they have to meet CAFE standards that are fully intended to squeeze out the internal combustion engines that are most affordable to consumers.  The same government overreach that had your messiah talking about how his environmental/energy policies would necessarily force energy prices to skyrocket.  The same government overreach that basically took over 1/6 of the US economy to provide everyone with a magical unicorn in which everyone had cheap, affordable, effective healthcare coverage...only to find out after the fact that the truth was quite the opposite.

If we could just get past all the usual name-calling and mud slinging, it's a really interesting issue, whether the state or local government are within their rights to refuse to enforce federal law, and whether the executive branch of the federal government is within its rights to selectively withhold funds as punishment.   

 

As far as I can tell from a minimal amount of research, state and local governments do not have to help the federal government enforce federal law.   Whether the executive branch of the federal government has the power to withhold money that has been authorized by Congress seems kind of doubtful.  As far as I know, disbursement of funds has to be authorized by the legislative branch, and that would imply that the Executive branch cannot just refuse to disburse the funds.

 

It's interesting because we have legalized sale of marijuana in some states, which is in direct violation of federal law.  But as I recall, the Obama administration did not enforce federal law in that case.   They could have come in and shut down the marijuana dispensaries and charged the proprietors with a federal crime, but they would have had to use federal law enforcement personnel.

One of the primary duties of the federal government is to protect and defend against all enemies foreign and domestic.  An illegal alien (undocumented worker in "liberal speak") has broken the law and presents a danger to this country.  It might not be in the form of violence, rather it might be in the form of "economic danger".  Sanctuary cities typically allow illegal aliens to apply for and receive "benefits" or "assistance" which is pretty much provided through federal funds.  That equates to your federal tax dollars (assuming that you actually pay taxes) going towards supporting them.

 

In simple terms that even a liberal should understand, the federal government asks law enforcement officials to report any illegal aliens that they have in custody.  Basically these "sanctuary cities" refuse to do so.  It doesn't matter if the suspect is in custody for a DUI or a murder.  The liberal "sanctuary cities" refuse to get rid of this kind of scum.
