Nuggets from Mike Mayock

If Harvey and Groves panned out like we had planned, we were on our way to a super bowl, with the 2 headed monster attack of mjd and fred taylor and the best game manager qb, Garrard.

Only thing that scares me about floyd is his age and maturity. I love his film but I wouldn't take him over tunsil or bosa
Quote:Only thing that scares me about floyd is his age and maturity. I love his film but I wouldn't take him over tunsil or bosaYeah, I agree that those two are better talents in all honesty. One plays a position we should be good at though in LT, and the other isn't a great fit at LEO regardless of what those guys at BCC are saying. I'd love Bosa, but in this current scheme, I see more of a 5T/3T than a LEO. He's awfully big/not very fast to be a LEO imo. My one thing with Floyd is that he needs to sit at 240-245 for me to feel good about him. Any lighter and that could cause some problems at LEO/OTTO, which is where he'd likely fit in.

Quote:He was listed at that weight at the combine.Yeah I know, but apparently he had a visit with ATL recently where he was around 235 I believe. He just has to show he can stick to 244 like he was at his combine and I'll be happy with him. In the NFL, hopefully being in an NFL weight room would do it, but Telvin never got much bigger so it's hard for me to say it'll happen for sure. I'd imagine they would have talked to him about this though, because at OTTO/LEO he needs to be bigger than 230.
Guys, his weight and stuff is the same discussion people had with Telvin. Yes, two different situations as Telvin was picked much later. But he's playing like a high pick. And yes, the positional difference is there too. But with the way our front 4 are set up, having that speed behind them would be great! Telvin plays at what, 220ish? Floyd can hold the 230-240ish weight and be fine.
GO JAGS!!
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!
He weight in 248 at pro day but felt sick (stomach issues) during the day and only did the vertical jump (35 inches, 4 and a half inches lower than at combine) before stopping for the day.

I think weight is one thing that can (and will) get higher, but he has something that you can not teach. "Length"... Gus Bradley's favorite term.

What have we been complaining about for a long time now? "Our defense lacks speed, we need to get a lot faster in a lot of areas". Well, we got Gipson at FS, and now we may very well be adding an elite athlete with tremendous speed at OTTO that can rush from the edge on passing downs. I think his weight will ultimately be fine too, but it definitely needs to come up a bit if he wants to play either of those spots, both of which are where he fits on this defense. That's my only real gripe with Floyd.
Quote:Killer speed as well. my gripe is his age (23-24 this year) and not much else. if he was 21 and showed that potential - I'd be pretty happy with the pick. and the more I think about it, if that is his biggest knock for me, I guess I won't be upset if he is our guy.

I don't know anything about him (other than watching those YouTube highlights that make everyone look like the greatest player in the world) but I hesitate to guess what Caldwell is planning on doing. He is intentionally vague and misleading when he wants a guy. Heck, i wouldn't be surprised if he wants Bosa. He almost seems to be intentionally ignoring him.
I like the idea of a fast LB, even if it isn't the one everyone thought we were going to take.

Quote:The difference in playing at 235-240 versus 245-250 is miniscule. He wasn't even 235-240 if you watch his Georgia tape. I disagree regardless. At OTTO like others pointed out you have to be able to help in the run game as well, he was too light last year to do a ton with that. He had trouble with big OT's getting a hold of him and that was pretty obvious the more I watched him. He needs to get bigger while holding his elite speed to get to his true potential. An extra 15 pounds would do great things for him, but obviously you don't put too much where he loses some of that speed.

"He is very solid in coverage and has ridiculous speed off the edge. He'd be a great fit in this scheme. When they have no time, they think about it!
When they go down hard, they think about it! Just watch Peyton, Andrew, Caep even Mr. Bundchen. Quote:"He is very solid in coverage and has ridiculous speed off the edge. I definitely didn't say him being 230-235 in this scheme at OTTO/LEO would be just fine. If I did, I didn't mean to do so.
Floyd at 5 would be terrible. He underachieved at Georgia so why should things change? I wouldn't even take him if trade down to 11. I'd rather have Lawson, Lee and even Ragland.
