Game of thrones (spoilers obviously)

Quote:this show is losing aot of my interest. not like it matters to the production staff or people and im pretty sure I am alone with most of my thoughts on this, but the show has really hit a low point that im not sure they can over come at least for me. like I said, I am sure I am alone on this one, but I personally hate the acting, role, and actress who is khalessee. she has destroyed that role but the production staff insists on making over come ridiculous things only to make half wit people love her even more. she is one of many glaring problems with the show but unfortunately will not die. I am sure I would be alone but I would celebrate the hell out of Geoffrey level death for that piece of trash actress. on top of that, like TWD, this shows staff gets off on killing off or brutally maiming beloved characters because of the ridiculous belief that any emotion association is good even if it sad or bad. as if killing NED in the first season wasn't enough, they have made it appoint to gain viwers attachment only to kill for rating purposes almost every time. I loved this show a lot so it does pain me that I am beginning to feel this way about it, but I can not help it. last night was all time low because I honestly didn't flinch at anything that happened and wasn't emotionally pushed whatsoever by anything that occurred. sadly I was more interesting in silicon valley which should be a fraction as interesting as GoT but at this point has taken my vote. I never thought I would say this but I think I am done with Game Of Thrones. I really couldn't care less what happens this season. I'm not sure if you read the novels, but Ned Stark was killed exactly as depicted in the novel, and his death is essential to nearly every story line occurring in Westeros.

Non-readers were insensed. My best friend's wife went on a 15 minute long rant after that episode and she's normally one of the most even tempered and laid back people I know...lol. At the time, if you weren't familiar with fantasy literature much less Martin's writing...it did seem like Ned's death was a shock value killing and I accept that the "good guys never win for long" mantra extolled in this series can be a bit heavy handed. Basically, no players left in the game can be clearly described as stereotypically good imo. The two closest to that mold are both relatively minor characters for the time being in Brienne of Tarth (my second favorite character) and Samwell Tarley. People need someone to root for and with Jon Snow out of commission for the time being, there is a noticeable void for most with Tyrion being the lone exception (but by no means is Tyrion good in the traditional sense). Edits due to accursed autocorrect.

Quote: Also, Areo Hotah going down like he did was pretty bunk, he's one of the best fighters in the world and he didn't get any screen time at all to show that, just one shot of him twirling his halberd up to Jaime's neck, big whoop. That is the only thing that really annoyed me with the premiere. Seems like such a waste. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:That is the only thing that really annoyed me with the premiere. Seems like such a waste. You could argue Barristan Selmy got the short end of the proverbial stick here also. As I recall, he WAS the baddest man on the block; his notable fight scene was omitted and while he went out swinging, he went out to a bunch of relatively (compared to him) unskilled insurgents. Now, I don't know how he dies in the novels as I've never actually sat down to read them, I just know via my friends (all of whom have read) that Barristan was a no joke. As a related aside, I'm not even sure if Jaime has gotten his just due in terms of how skilled he is supposed to be on this show.

Quote:That is the only thing that really annoyed me with the premiere. Seems like such a waste. The whole Dorne storyline has been a waste since the red viper dies. Doran is depicted in the novels as being the ultimate schemer on littlefinger levels, cold and calculating with patience. Ellaria Sand is less inclined for revenge in the novels as well, the whole Dorne plot line has been royally screwed up.

Quote:I just can't imagine the series with a live Ned Stark. Oh definitely. I'm not implying he shouldn't have died. By rights, he had to die considering what he stood for...I'm just saying that I kind of get the angst of the casual fan who isn't invested as much as someone who has read the series or, as in my case, is a hardcore fantasy nerd (albeit more in the vein of Tolkein than Martin).

In the books he learns to fight with the mute kings guard guy from the first couple seasons that had to leave the show due to cancer. Hence why Bronn is completely off the rails on his story line. Selmy is no joke he is just old at this point, his best scene is throwing his sword down at the kings feet.

It had to happen, the great problem with Tolkein work is there is a defined good and a defined evil. In reality there is a gray between the two and thats what makes Martin superior in some ways. Ned was too good and Joeffrey was too evil so both had to be put down so the gray areas be seen. Stannis is probably my favorite characters in the books but they didn't do him much justice in the show. My favorite character in the show has always been the hound, he knows there is good and evil in the world and accepts living in the between and going to one side or the other when it suits him.

You aren't alone in your assessment of Stannis. He was pretty cool in the beginning honestly but this past season destroyed any redeeming qualities he may have had to make him relatable (good vs. evil notwithstanding). You're also right about Tolkein but I'm boring in that I'm fond of clear good vs. clear evil myself. Probably because I've been playing D&D since I was old enough to read the Player's Handbook and favor good characters. ![]() Still, everything you said has merit. Varys is, by far, my favorite and he sure as hell isn't good. Although in his defense, it's clear that everything Varys does he does for the greater good of the realm as opposed to Littlefinger who's only out for #1. After Varys, I rate Brienne, Tyrion and (RIP) Jeor Mormont in that order. I feel bad for the Hound more than anything else but he's still a cool character. I would've liked nothing more than for him to be the one to kill the Mountain. This is an example of the kind of thing that I think Martin should throw in a little more frequently. Everyone exists basically to get dumped on...every blue moon it's nice when someone actively gains some measure of retribution for having been wronged (a la Tyrion-Tywin). Quote:Yeah, but those Sand Snakes are hot. Menacing...but hot. Most definitely...although I don't get the impression that what we see of them is anything like how they are in the books (aside from being hot).

He's one of the greatest military minds alive in the world, yet he lets Ramsay and "20 good men" kill half his horses and destroy/burn all of their provisions in one night.

Quote:You never know what could happen. in the books he actually sets up camps around a frozen lake you can't see due to all the snow and has his men drill holes in spots so if someone does try the 20 good men thing they drown. Thats one of the last updates you get of his situation before winds of winter.

I mean, he may end up getting killed within the first few chapters of TWOW, but he didn't deserve to go down the way he did in the show, at least not in my opinion. They made him into a villain, which I think even the book readers who totally hated book Stannis wouldn't go that far, but whatever.

Check out the Jag's Forum Alternative: Duval Football Fans. Quote:I just can't imagine the series with a live Ned Stark. Agreed. If Stark had lived, he would have rallied the North without making the youthful mistakes that Robb did (probably bringing Stannis and Renly and most likely The Vale and the Boltons into an alliance) and destroyed the Lannisters. Stannis gets re-established as King of Westeros, has Daenerys assassinated and the continent is united (as much as it can be) against the threat beyond the wall. One book and done. This way is much more interesting.
