Drafting #5... Tunsil, Ramsey, Jack, Bosa are all gone......

#21

Quote:Lawson or Spence

Trading down would make the most sense, but if they are all gone, what incentive is there really for a team to trade up?
To me, there might be two scenarios/players that may entice a team to trade up.

1.  A QB is there at 5 and a team wants to jump ahead of SF.

2.  A LT desperate team who likes Stanley wants to jump ahead of Baltimore to get Stanley.

I think Caldwell has someone in mind.

When he was speaking on the radio last week he said he had five players in his head who he would be happy taking.

He also added something along the lines of "they might not all be household names".

That makes me think his pick at five might be someone we're not expecting, if this scenario plays out...

My guess is Rankins or Lawson.

Rankins is going to be a good player.

However, do we take someone like this who will not start right away?

Im guessing the 5 are Tunsil, Ramsey, Jack, Bosa, VH3

Depending on how far they trade back, it could work out o.k. even though they don't end up with Bosa, Jack or Ramsay. I'd be fine with trading back to S.F. at 7 and getting their 2nd rounder. They might do this if they know they would lose out on their favorite q.b. to a team that trades up ahead of them like the Rams. Jags could then get 3 of the top 40 players. They would most likely take their top rated pass rusher (Spence or Lawson) in the first, and an OTTO and interior offensive lineman in the 2nd. This would enable them to strengthen every position of need following free agency. They could use the rest of the draft accumulating defensive depth, especially on the front 7. Who knows, Lawson or Spence might end up better than Bosa or Jack and they get an extra 2nd rounder to show for it.

Reading this made me realize something I had been talking around but not really addressing.

The two teams I have speculated might trade up with Jacksonville to get one of the QBs are both from the same division and now both in California.  That rivalry with each other may work to our advantage.  If they are competing with each other over the same QB, the bidding just might get a little more intense because of it.

Perhaps not, but hope springs eternal this time of year.

What about this scenario.

1. Titans- Ramsey

2. Bowns- Wentz

3. Chargers- Tunsil

4. Cowboys- Buckner

5. Jaguars- Trade down with SF for picks 7th and 37th. 49ers- Goff

6. Ravens- Bosa

7. Jaguars- Jack

I think some teams are worried about Jack's ability to play longterm. If the Jags were to trade down for a edge rusher and Jack is still on the board I would take Jack. I looked up value of draft picks. Picks 37 and 38 are worth 1050 points all together. I would be willing to trade both of those picks for pick number 15.

15. Jaguars- Floyd

This would be a miracle if it happened. Jack can play anywhere we want him too and Floyd would add to LEO depth.

Quote:You do realize that with the win now mandate this team currently faces, this will never happen...right?

It never happens even in the absence of the win now mandate, but especially with the win now mandate Khan has given the team.

Taking a QB in the first round does absolutely nothing to strengthen this team this year.

I don't think a rookie is going to make the difference in wins. Do you think our first rounder is going to make the difference in 5-11 and 9-7?

Just to play devils sdvocate, i think having Zeke Elliott on our team give us 2 extra wins.

Not saying I don't like Yeldon, and not saying we are going to draft him at 5.

Just saying Zeke added to this offense to grow would be nasty. Amirite?

Why would the 49ers need to jump the Ravens for Goff?

Interesting, but highly doubtful.

Just in case someone is trying to jump them for Goff. I think Goff is the most ready QB compared to Wentz. Wentz is the 1st QB taken because of his potential. I think Goff slides and someone trades up for him. If the 49ers want him they might have to trade up just to secure him before someone like the Rams trade up.

I agree. The Rams have been awfully quiet this off season when it comes to being linked to FA QBs. And I highly doubt they think Keenum or Foles is their QB of the future. Something tells me they have something up their sleeves as it relates to the draft.

If we pass on Bosa I would be pretty sad if he was on the board @5. He may not be a leo, but who cares?! Gus is more likely to go 5-11 and get fired than go 11-5 and win the division. Get the best talent possible and at 5 I would argue Bosa would be the best pick for this team if Ramsey is gone. We need rushers and DBs.

I think Lawson or Stanley, if they pull a shocker and take Stanley look for a jump back into the first for Spence

I was worried about the dreaded 2nd OT in the top 5 in the Caldwell regime, but Beachum pretty much sealed that as a no IMO.

Quote:Absolutely.

We COULD be in a good position to trade back if one of two things happen at QB:

1)  Cleveland somehow trades for a veteran QB and bypasses QB at 2, and two teams below us think only one QB is worth a top 5 pick, we may deal down then or;

2)  Cleveland takes a QB at two, and two or more teams below us think there is only one QB remaining worth a top 5 pick.

As of now, my top 5 draft preferences for the Jaguars pick at #5:

A.  Jack

B. Ramsey

C.  Lawson

D. Bosa

E. trade down

I choose Lawson over Bosa because Bosa is not a LEO, though he has pass rush ability.

Man, this is my exact ranking, too. We are like two peas in a pod. Keep up the good thinking. But to overthink it, I might still go with Ramsey at #1 since DBs tend to have longer careers than LBers.

Trade Down: then take Reggie Ragland (the best MLB in the draft). He is the closest thing to a sure thing in the draft

I like this scenario, except, I would rather keep 2 back to back picks early in the 2nd rd rather than trade those away for one midline 1st rounder
