"Yeldon and Ivory to split carries"...but...

#21

Lots of money for a back-up RB. Especially with guys still on the market who've proven they can fill that role - James Starks in particular is interesting.

And all on the heels of the Gerhart flop; I guess Dave wasn't gun-shy with overpaying veteran RB's even after that.

I see a situation sort of like Gio Benard (Yeldon) / Jeremy Hill (Ivory). Two complimentary styles.

The difference is ivory is more proven that gerhart. TG wasn't proven and we gave him a shot and he took the money and limped away.

Quote:With the money shelled out for Ivory, its hard to not see him as the starter day 1. I dont think that means much though as both will split carries on gameday, and I agree, the hot hand will get the most carries. Ivory is not an every down back, he had a great season last year, but he wore down as the season went on. During the first 10 games, he was tearing it up, but he did wear down. He needs a compliment for him and to take the load off his back every once in a while.

I would not be surprised if Ivory started as our main RB, but as the season goes on, Yeldon gets more carries.
We shelled out quite a bit to have toby ride the bench for two years. Money is our only attraction for FA'a at this point so dont put to much stock in what someone is getting paid. Unless we pay them 90 mil then i obviously expect some sort of a impact. As for him wearing down, i think having the passing attack we have along with yeldon to split the carries should alleviate some of that load.

He can be the starter same as Yeldon can.

Let Yeldon run in the first half and wear the defense down, and then Ivory comes in and pummels them.

Ivory is here because when Yeldon went down last season, the running game went straight down the commode. They don't want to see that happen again.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Anyone follow Yeldon on snapchat? Dude sure likes to party. I don't care at all because who wouldn't at his age, I just hope he doesn't get in trouble.

Out of everyone on our team I would have had him down as the least likely to be a party animal. Except maybe Myers.

I wouldn't say party animal, like Manziel lol. They all party it's just a matter of who stays out of trouble and has a good time.

Quote:I'm almost positive that has something to do with it. Gus has always wanted to be a run first team. Blake and Arob are going to take fantasy hits I think but if it results in more wins, I am all for it.

^^ I completely agree with this.

I expect the running game to be better this year, especially in the Red Zone. Yeldon is more experienced, the O-line should be better, and Ivory is a solid addition. It may be likely that Ivory carries a heavy load in a few games. He's capable. Alot of the better teams in the AFC had 2 good RBs that could produce when called upon (Denver, Cincy, NE, Pitt). Having both Ivory and Yeldon is a big "plus".

IMO, Bortles' scoring numbers will likely decline due to the addition of a capable running attack. But, that's a very good thing for the team IMO. It should help result into more wins.

Just a surprise because Yeldon seems so reserved and shy. Wouldn't have pegged him as someone who goes out much.

Quote:I think they both stay, that's only 4 'backs on the roster.

This. Two power backs and two speed backs. I like Robinson and Grant on special teams. Gray is intriguing though...

They each bring something different to the table. Hopefully it will allow them to be more effective with the offensive game plan game to game. One runner may be favored over the other depending on the D they're facing that week.
