I also get really bad nasal congestion and sneezing fits. I'll be honest man. I started taking Nasalcort since August of last year to help with breathing. It just takes maybe one or two sprays up each nostril. Haven't felt better in years. It'll run you about $15 - $25 at a Walgreens or CVS. It's over the counter. No prescription required. I was allergic to dogs for years and had no clue until my blood work showed that I was last year around June-July. And the doctor told me I had really two options. Either take a medication or get rid of the dog. I obviously chose the spray. It's great man.

 

I used to wonder why I suddenly developed allergies after moving back to Tennessee from Florida. We have bad ragweed and mold from rotting leaves certain times of the year, but I was sneezing and congested all the time. Then I saw my White German Shepherd shake his coat, and the light caught perfectly the cloud of dander floating off his body.

 

That dog has passed on, but I have another German Shepherd as well as a Black Lab. The problem persists, but I love my dogs. I will do what it takes to live as comfortably as possible, but I'm keeping my girls.

Is it better than Allegra? Cause i have taken allegra before, not so good. I also just bought Flonase nasal spray.

It did for me...Allegra didn't seem to help me either.

I attempted to make light of this thread earlier, but if the truth be known, I feel blessed I have no allergies. I've seen the misery endured and even witnessed one guy medically discharged from the Navy because of allergies. My wife has mild to moderate allergies and some days she's absolutely miserable. I think of the days before allergy relief medicine was available and think it must have been absolute torture.

Zyrtec...no drowsiness at all and works like a charm. I have awful allergies and it's a life saver!!

I like Zyrtec as well.

Whiskey.

Claritin didn't seem to do a thing for me, neither did Allegra...

Zyrtec works best for me too.


It did work better than Allegra for me for pollen and pet allergies.

When i was living in PA, I was miserable from the time the plans started growing until the leaves fell off of the trees.  Even got allergy shots, twice a week, for over 15 years.  Whatever grows up there, ain't growing down here because I only have minor problems for a few weeks at the beginning and end of growing season.  So I find it tolerable.

 

Let me go out on a limb here and say...a doctor could probably give better advice than some clown (myself included) on a message board.

Pollen is a killer for me. Spring is starting early here in NYC and the sneezing and itchy throat are so bothersome. Just bought Zyrtec so hopefully it helps.

Flonase worked well for both of my kids. I think it needs a few days to really kick in though and you need to use it daily. Or at least my kids did.

I never had an issue with allergies/pollen until this year.  Claritan works for me , but I don't like to take it in the evening.  However, the room hepa filter I picked up a couple of weeks ago, really helps at home. I'll probably get a couple more so I don't have to move it around the house.
