When a players rookie contract is over you want to sign them to a long term deal assuming they played up to their draft position. By the time leonards rookie contract is over youre re-signing a guy at the most physically detrimental position who wont be in his prime for much longer


versus a guy who plays a position that continually has guys playing their best for a long time.


With the 4th overall pick, you want guys who can be contributers for a decade or more. A TE is more likely to give you that over an RB.

Why? You don't have to sign them to another contract if they won't be in their prime much longer. You can cut your losses and look to free agency or go back to the draft.


It's that simple. I wouldn't go spouting off about people not being smart when you can only literally every see one side of things. You're way too narrow minded.

If you don't want to invest too much money like you're talking about. The simple solution is one contract and then let them go.


Cut your losses was a poor choice of words. You simply let the player go, instead of giving a bad contract.

That Ivory contract was atrocious. Dave's worst contract to date. I feel like Gus had some sort of influence on it. I think Gus really wanted a Marshawn Lynch type runner and saw a little of that in Ivory. Either way, never should have gotten that much, but he has very little guaranteed money total compared to rest of top 10, so atleast there's that.

 

 

I don't think it would have been so bad if we actually used Ivory like a RB should be used.

Mixon or maybe Kamara if he slips a little in round 2. McNichols or Marlon Mack in round 3. Much wiser than square peg round hole Fournette.
