This should be a no brainer.

Resigning Gerhart?  Really? Are we that desperate for a guy who can't get 2 yards in a pinch?  Cause if we are I'm pretty sure we could sign someone off the street to fill that role.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Absolutely.  I thought for sure Gerhart was a goner.  I'm pretty sure most reasonable people thought so too.

Well for starters they aren't re-signing him. He's still under contract. I assume he'll be looked at as an H-Back type of role going forward. Caldwell also mentioned that they will explore adding additional running backs via FA and draft and gave a nod to Jonas Gray and Corey Grant. The backfield will be loaded with competition come camp time and I find it hard to imagine they'll be able to keep everyone. Why not bring him to camp to give him one last shot? Who does it hurt?

I mean he either makes the cut as an FB/H-Back type or he doesn't. Either way no harm no foul.

I was all ready to write out a snarky little post about people maintaining their own happiness and such and I realized just how childish it would be.

Your overall argument remains valid, Gerhart is under contract. Why not let him fight it out through Training Camp?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

When asked about RB depth behind Yeldon, I think Caldwell's response tells you all you need to know about Gerhart's role.  He's gonna have to earn it.

"Behind (Yeldon) we have Denard Robinson, who we like, he's a great special teamer. And then we signed Jonas Grey last year, late in the year. He did a nice job, and we expect him to come in and compete. We'll look in free agency. We'll look in the draft. We have Toby Gerhart still on our team, and then we have Corey Grant a rookie free agent ... that showed a lot of promise as a change of pace back, he's a 4.2 speed guy...can really take the top off...think he was fifth in the league in KO returns before he got hurt. We look for him to challenge for some play time this year too."

Cause h stinks. A late season signing of Jonas Gray showed more promise in just one game.

Dude. Can't you read?

Assuming they add one running back via FA or the draft that will give us a backfield of:

Yeldon

DRob

Gray

Grant

FA/Draft pick

Gerhart

Do you expect them to start the season with 6 RBs on the roster?
