Jalen Ramsey highlights...where are they?
|
http://watch.scout.com/jalen-ramsey-offi...state-cb-1
Remember - The star position isn't a CB and doesn't get the same number of opportunities at INTs as a CB. Are his numbers low? Yes. Maybe even still a bit low when accounting for the fact that he wasn't playing the same position you guys are comparing numbers with. I still think he has the skill set to be a high quality FS in the league. Is he worth the #5 pick? Hard to say, but there are dozens of analysts calling for him to go top ten, so.... maybe the combine will confirm or deny those expectations. Brugler: IN OUR VIEW: If you combined a cornerback and safety into one prospect, the result would look something like Ramsey, who was blessed with the inherent instincts and intuition along with the size/athletic profile to be a difference-maker. <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">While versatile, his 2014 game film as a hybrid safety was better than his 2015 game film at boundary cornerback due to his long, easy strides to cover a lot of ground, but he can do everything you want in the secondary and is also an impact player on special teams coverages. <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's rare to see defensive backs mentioned as worthy of the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL Draft, but Ramsey deserves it with his natural playmaking skills. He can play cornerback (inside or outside), but his best NFL fit is in a nickel or safety role. <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">COMPARES TO: Tyrann Mathieu, Arizona Cardinals - While some teams will like him better as a cornerback and others as a safety, like Mathieu, Ramsey is better categorized as a playmaking defensive back due to his rangy skill-set and versatility. <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Jaguars have been searching for cornerback help for a long time, but haven't drafted the position in the first round since 1999. Ramsey has experience at safety and corner, but is better categorized as a versatile ballhawk <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">--Dane Brugler (2/10/16) <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">----------------------------------------- <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">ROB RANG: <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Every indication is the Chargers are looking to move on from longtime standout safety Eric Weddle, a pending free agent. San Diego could see Ramsey as an ideal replacement. An Olympic-caliber athlete with instincts, size and physicality, Ramsey has starred all over the secondary and even at linebacker for the Seminoles, projecting best as a safety in the NFL. <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">------------------------------------------ <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">http://www.jaguars.com/media-gallery/vid...64bed251ee <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">^^ fast forward to 5:00 min ^^ <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">-------------------------------------------- <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Sports Illustrated: (#2 overall prospect on big board) <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:'proxima-nova', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">JALEN RAMSEY, CB/S Junior, Florida State Ramsey might be the best cornerback prospect in this class, but the fact that he also stands out as the top safety option is why he lands here. Playing him out of the latter spot would give him more opportunities to play downhill as a blitzer and a run defender, in addition to using his coverage skills. -------------------------------------- The consensus on this guy is unusually positive. He'd be one hell of a bust if seemingly everyone is wrong about him. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:They are important. You won't watch Ramsey and be wowed by his coverage skills. He's decent. He's not even Xavier Rhodes. I hope we take him even more now than before just so I can watch you whine.
Quote:When was the last time DB was drafted in the top 10 with <5 career INTs and 0 the season before he went pro? Troy Vincent was the first one I found who came close, with 4 college INT's (at least according to pro sports reference, not sure hwo accurate the number is and can't find any other source), though he had 2 the last season before he went pro. Bruce Pickens also had 4, but only 1 in his last year (again same source, with no other sources found)
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
It's just a need thing for me, we need a free saftey pretty badly. Do we need an ILB as badly,no not really. I mean Trevathan is a really good ILB who can cover and his market is rumored to be only 5-7 mil annually. Berry/Gipson will easily make more than that annually because there's about 5 good free saftiees in the league. So if one is available to be drafted I would jump all over him. If Ramsey didn't play FS then I personally wouldn't even rate him the #1 CB

NYC4Jags thanx for the only sensible argument in response to what i posted.
As i said before, He is an excellent press corner with great athleticism but what will that do if he cant find the ball in the air playing against the top receivers in the NFL. The fact that it is only assumed he will be a great player based on strength and athleticism alone is showing the NEEDS based view from alot on the MB. If i want a centerfielder on this defense it would be K. Joseph(WVU). He actually excels at playing single high and can play in the box if need be while causing (TURNOVERS) key word right there. If we want a corner give me VH3, safety KJ, DE Bosa/Spence, Coverage LB Jack. Press corner with little to no ball skills once the pass is thrown deep.....Ramsey. The NEEDs drafters can only say FS is a glaring hole for Ramsey to fill; but tell me how would he be better than KJ at FS. We don't need an hybrid corner/FS that can't dominate any one position. We need a playmaker that can make plays at the position he is drafted for, not a prayer/assumption/experiment. I said all i saw was excuses and then i read replies full of them lol. I'm a Gator and know he isn't even the best FSU primary corner prospect to come out in the last 10 years.

Maybe we should draft Sanchez from Oklahoma or that temple lb who's last name I can't spell because the both have more or equal to the number of interceptions Joseph had who didn't even lead his team in INTs. The way you cover has more to do than just the number of INTS you have. I get he only played in 4 games this year but how many did he have his junior year? 1

If he's THAT good i should see it not assume it. If you show me tape where he just shutdown his man and had 0 pick opportunities then i'll understand the stat excuses. Just give me 1 Game just 1 and i will concede. I'll wait.

Quote:Ramsey vs Miami this year was ewwww He played some decent coverage but there were plays where he had trouble tracking the ball and that lead to catches
Quote:He played some decent coverage but there were plays where he had trouble tracking the ball and that lead to catches That's his number 1 flaw. He sucks at tracking the ball in the air leading to completions. Now if you want to run him at the QB during a blitz, he's good. On running downs, he's great. Passing...look out!!!
Watching more of these FS prospects. I don't see a huge gap between Ramsey and the rest of the guys.
Justin Simmons from Boston College IMO is pretty underrated and could be a centerfielder in the near future. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Won't it be fun to re-visit this thread one day regardless of how Jalen Ramsey ends up being as a player in the NFL. Should be fun!
