Colts, Luck closing in on a "nine-figure" deal

#21

Quote:That's all it's ever been about. Potential. It's the word everyone uses with him because he checks a lot of the boxes scouts look for. Well, a lot of players ckeck those boxes and never sniff becoming 'average'. I've thought the guy was overrated since he came out in the draft. He stares down receivers, is wildly inaccurate and his pocket awareness deteriorates quickly from very little pressure.

Sometimes you think the offensive play call is "Hope and pray, on three" because it looks like he just chucks it and hopes someone comes down with it. He's actually visibly regressed. Not that I'm complaining. #stuckwithLuck

I'd be surprised if he didn't visibly regress playing seriously injured for a lot of the year and with the disaster of a colts team last year. Let's not pretend that Blake would have done much better under the same circumstances. I don't think Luck is anywhere near reaching his full potential. Watch him bounce back this year.

Even when he's healthy he still inconsistent with his accuracy, his pocket presence deteriorates easily under very little duress and everything else I just mentioned. As a QB he's all hype at the moment. If he wasn't in the AFC South to start his career things would look ridiculously different.

Yeah but he is in the AFC south.Bortles has inconsistent accuracy and has been helped hugely by playing in the AFC south this year also.

Luck is still a scary QB when healthy. Healthy respect for him.

Not in this thread you don't, why, he's no better than Blaine Gabbert really.

Bortles is more far more accurate with an offensive line that was arguably way more inconsistent.

I wouldn't say far more accurate and Luck had pretty serious injuries.

Anyway Luck is still a very good QB and I wouldn't write him off this early like some posters have already, its possible to hate the clots and Luck but still recognise that he's a pretty talented QB.

I haven't seen anyone call him a scrub. Right now he's not the Messiah QB that people think he is. Hell, he isn't even Andy Dalton level.

C'mon now. Give Luck that defense and they win multiple Super Bowls.

I honestly can't tell if you're being serious.

Luck with the rest of the Bengals roster would be hell for the rest of us. This stuff about him not being good is fine as smack among rivals but also not reality.

Go back to the first few weeks of this past season when Luck was healthy. This team had Super Bowl buzz and just barely beat the Titans who have the #1 pick. He threw 7 picks in only 3 games.

Luck is such a polarizing player to discuss. It's like there's a glass full/empty standpoint with him.

So a qb with no running game and a terrible defense is bad because they dont win a few games each year when he throws picks? What is Bortles then, because he doesn't win those games and I think he's pretty good too. Luck is one of the best in the game today, the only shame in that for us is that we gave him to the clots.

I'm more worried about Mariota than Luck

it truly amazes me that people, not to mention jaguars fans, are still not seeing the true luck.

he's average to above average and it's been long enough to say that he likely isn't going to improve much more.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

What makes Luck one of the best today? Potential? Because the numbers go both ways. Luck is either good or God-awful in situations. The Colts defense was a hell of a lot more consistent than ours. I mean how many third and longs did we give up? We let some of the slowest QB's in football run for first downs. Luck had an arsenal of weapons coming into the league like Reggie Wayne. Blake did what he accomplished this year under Olsen for the first time as a young QB with a young offense learning it with him.

If I'm scared of a QB it's Mariota.

I'm not particularly frightened of either of those guys, but definitely see Luck as the bigger threat than Mariota. Mariota looks like a flash in the pan kind of guy. His only good game in the second half of last season was against the God awful Jaguars defense that couldn't even stop Hoyer. In the second half of 2015 besides his fortunate matchup against the Jaguars he was 3 TDs 3 INTs. Not an inspiring stat line, and if you actually watched him play, even against the Jaguars, it was easy to see he isn't a guy that played his team up, and instead was a guy that rode the waves well if his team was able to overpower the competition.

Luck, on the other hand, is a guy that actually has thrown 40 TDs in a season. Yeah he seems to still have some stupidity in him at moments, but there's no doubt in my mind that Mariota is Alex Smith while Luck is more like Eli Manning. One puts up good stats and doesn't throw many INTs, but will never win in the post season unless its against radically inferior competition, the other isn't elite, but can have runs of excellence good enough that it is conceivable that with good play around them they could manage to win in the playoffs.

All I have to say is you underestimate Luck at your peril. I hate the clots with every fibre of my being but Luck is still a very good QB.

Yes, because nothing screams "good idea" like taking a QB who regressed badly and handing him a monster of a contract when you've already got him locked up for a prove-it 2016.

Great idea!  Go Jaguars!
