I brought up only the time period you mentioned, which then you bring up more useless info that had nothing at all to do with my original point, or your original comment. It was brought up because I buried your original point.


None of the other stuff even matters in all of this situation. But I'll add that even the easiest SEC schedule is tougher than any other conferences schedule. Though that doesn't even matter to the original point/s.

The strength of schedule rankings would agree with you in regards to the SEC West, but not the SEC East.  I think you are missing the point here and do not understand how scheduling works.  UF plays in the East.  Every computer and ranking has the East as the WORST division in the Power 5.  A majority of your games, especially when you add in the three cupcakes, are against nobodies.  Yes, according to Sagarins SOS rankings, Alabama has the toughest schedule; yes, Arkansas is 5; yes, LSU is 6; and so on, and so on.  The Gators though, as well as every other team in the East, are not in the top 10.  Most hover around that 30-50 range.  So now, the rankings and common logic dictates that the Gators and the SEC East do not have stronger schedules than most other teams.

 

I think you missed the part after one of the CFP Rankings came out and the Chairman of the CFP Committee said the reason he had Florida so low was because they had only beaten TWO teams with a winning record.  Fast forward 5 weeks later, the Gators finished the regular season (12 games) by only facing 5 teams with a winning record (and they lost 2 of those games). Kentucky played only played 5 teams with a winning record and lost them all.  And so on, and so on.

 

Compare that to Southern Cal who has a fairly high SOS ranking.  They played as many RANKED teams as the Gators did teams with a winning record. 9 out of their 12 games were against teams with winning records (5 ranked).

 

USC

12 games - 9 vs over .500 (5 ranked)

Florida

12 games - 5 vs over .500 (3 ranked)

 

And let's not forget the best part, as usual, ZERO ranked teams UF played came from their division.  Because like I said and the standings show, the SEC East.... is the worst division.

When you look at the whole picture of the teams you posted your argument looks terrible when it comes to OOC.


So FSU being drug in this now? Jimbo went on record a few yew years ago stating he'd like the lighter scheduling when it comes to OOC. This season was Texas State, USF, UT Chatt, UF.

 

You can't include ND as scheduling as this game is now a mandatory one every few years since ND is using the ACC part time. They didn't actively go out to schedule them, it's not OOC

I figured he changed his tune based on the scheduling coming out now. When he came in, he went on record saying he wanted

to schedule lighter OOC. There was a pretty good thread on here talking about it and how that line of thinking was a departure from Bowden.

 

In the BCS format, that worked. Another reason it worked for the SEC was because of the strength of, or even perceived strength of the SEC. The new format is leading schools to schedule tougher OOC. Florida/Foley are realizing that and scheduling accordingly, looking to add one more power five to the schedule now a season starting with 2017.

Florida had the #17 ranked schedule this past season. So yes, their schedule was tougher then the vast majority of the power fives. Pre Michigan, #21.
