Bortles most sacked QB..
|
More telling: Aaron Rodgers is the second most-sacked QB. Just a couple of seasons ago, people were calling Green Bay's offensive line one of the best units in all of football. Wow.

FIRE THE PACKERS OL COACH!!! Quote:The line is going to be a focus for the team this off season. To be clear, I do not indict Marrone with this observation. I am one of Marrone's staunchest supporters on this board. I just think the numbers still give me pause when placed in additional context. But heck, if we can somehow master the shotgun snap, we would have cut down the sacks by at least three and the sack yardage by, what, 45 or so? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
I don't think the offensive line is going to improve by leaps and bounds next season. It could get marginally better, but I'm not forecasting huge improvements, which is okay. We've got a franchise QB. Franchise QB's find ways to be effective, no matter the situation. And It's not like Bortles is easily rattled. He, and this offense, will be fine.

Wow.To me, this goes back to what I have been arguing for a decade. Bortles can move. Rodgers can move. Russell Wilson can move. All have been hit and sacked a TON this year. A QB's mobility cannot necessarily offset a bad offensive line. Often times, it exacerbates it. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

When the run game isn't working and Blake is passing on so many downs, the opposing defense can tee off. This inflates sack numbers, it also makes the line look worse than what it possibly really is. But.....Marrone bad.

Quote:...or when the defense can't hold them and we have to play from behind, therefore forcing us to pass more.Well yeah, Chicken vs. egg, all results in Blake passing a bajillion times a game. Quote:They should start on the MB.Why so disrespectful?
Quote:Why so disrespectful? That is what they teach you in FBT's School of Message Board Bullying 101. Got ahold of one of his childhood photos today. ![]() Quote:Using sack totals as any sort of indictment of a coach is short sighted. I must admit that the offensive line's utter ineptitude when it comes to run blocking is far more of an indictment than the Jaguars finishing as the league's worst team in sack's allowed.

Quote:I must admit that the offensive line's utter ineptitude when it comes to run blocking is far more of an indictment than the Jaguars finishing as the league's worst team in sack's allowed. A minor correction here. Bortles may well have been the most sacked QB, but the Jaguars did NOT finish as the league's worst team in sacks allowed. That honor went to the tacks. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?t...ING_SACKED This subject and distinction are of particular interest to me since I had a wager on this very topic. My buddy now owes me a dinner from Boston's. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:This is why JJ Watt will never leave the Texans. He feasts off the Jags and Titans.
DC is going to invest some FA or draft resources in the OL, no doubt. Marrone is not a bad coach. It's hard to make filet mignon when given beans as the only ingredient.

Wow.Even though their O-line isn't the best there, Rodgers has always held onto the ball too long. This year he just seemed off also. Quote:More telling: Aaron Rodgers is the second most-sacked QB. Proves that mobility and savvy at QB can't overcome OL deficiencies as some may suggest. Statistics prove a harassed QB plays worse than one in a clean pocket, regardless of talent level.

Quote:http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/sacks Agreed I had high hopes for Marrone but considering the talent that was added; Parrnell for example and having existing Beadles, Linder even after being injured Cann wound up not being horrible at RG (had his rookie woes at times) but LT Luke struggled all year despite not allowing that many sacks until the Texans game (of course he was out a few games with injury & had Lewis helping block)... a couple of holding penalties too. Marrone did okay at coaching the OLine but not as good as we had hoped. |
