"Finding a FS is a lot like finding a QB now" - Uncle Dave

Put it this way, there are more teams in the NFL that have found Franchise QBs than there are ones who have found top level safeties.
I guess. Seems weird to me though.

If the free safety is that difficult for this team to find as the QB, the pass rusher is going to be like finding a leprechaun.

Quote:Id rather we sign a guy so that if we dragt Ramsey we can start him at corner. In our third down package nick marshall is starting outside.
I dont like Ramsey at CB for us, he is like a Colvin clone, good in the slot and rushing the QB, I dont think he is as good on the outside as the other 4 top CBs in the draft

Has been for the last decade.

Kind of like a Linebacker that can cover a tight end.

Thank you for saying this Dave. Clearly he realizes the FS is so crucial in this defense.

True, but even with Berry at SS this scheme can't function without a center fielder.

He has 10 Int not 6 and is a FS.  And back in Tennessee I remembered he could be lined up as wr as well.  Incredible hands.  You wouldnt know that cause schemes KC put him in.   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/pla...eric-berry

If you don't have a pass rush, finding a FS that can be effective is nearly impossible.

I don't want Ramsey at CB either. I think he could be a great safety in the NFL, but I want nothing to do with him at CB.

If we're going to go for a CB, it's Hargreaves.

I say we sign Berry AND draft Ramsey.

Trumaine Johnson would be the prefect CB for Gus. Sign him and draft Ramsey to play FS.

I could see a team with a premier pass rusher/pass rush say that.

We are not that team.

That being said... Ramsey could be the early telegraph pick.  I'd be for it, but we certainly need to add two, if not three (if at least one isn't a sure thing) pass rushers in FA and the draft this offseason.

Dave surely has to believe in his #3 overall pick to be that guy.

Isa Abdul-Quddus is also an option, though he is looking for money.

I know L. Delmas is coming off his 2nd ACL, but he is still young and good when healthy. A prove it contract with games played and interception incentives could be an option.

I say this because i still think pick #5 should be another LEO.

But, exactly what LEO type of player will be there/worth the 5th overall pick?

I agree but we could still use him.  Cyprien couldn't polish his shoes even on Chemo.

Trumaine johnson would make sense but with the season he had i doubt he gets free and if he does it will cost a ton.

If u cant play corner you shouldnt be drafted in the top ten. The chances of being worth that pick as a safety are only slightly better than powerball.

Not after losing him a year.  You can't expect that after those unfortunate circumstances.

Plan accordingly as if he won't be there (again,) and whatever he gives is gravy.  He deserves not to bear that burden after rehab.  The team and fans deserve more certainty than that.
