cricket wireless will give you ATT coverage and reliability. Not as fast, but will be pretty cheap and give you full phone flexibility with no contract.

Do you have a Zenfone or a Zenfone 2? Because the the Zenfone 2 requires the power button to be held down for few seconds to turn it on. If you had a Zenfone 2, maybe yours was faulty.

 

It's a Zenfone 2.  This issue isn't that it's powering on by itself, but that the screen is activating at random while powered on.  Normally pressing the power button activates the screen (while phone is powered on), which is standard for all mobile devices as far as I know.  But the screen is activating without the power button being pressed.  And I verified that just by touching the screen at a particular spot, I could activate it (and me not setting a passcode probably made it  worse).  I searched this and other people had the same issue though I can't find the link.  It's not a consistent problem, in fact I think restarting the phone fixes it, and it hasn't happened in a couple weeks.
