They do not present the same facilities for fans around the stadium to use before and after games. That could make an impact on fan attendance, depending on what else they use the land for.

I read somewhere that one of these teams may be playing in LA in 2016.  But where would they play next year?  It's not like they could throw up one of these stadiums in 8 months.  So would they just play at the Colisseum for a couple years?

The NFL will vote on it in 2016, so I doubt they mean next season. But if that were to happen, they have several colleges to choose from and the Rose Bowl.

"Raiders only in Carson: Still not happening." Why not? When was this idea ruled out as an option?

 

They also should cut out the part about Levi's Stadium. The Raiders have previously stated they do not want to play in Santa Clara. The whole story is about Los Angeles, not making the Raiders share a stadium.

 

One of the interesting points in Mike Florio's article is the Chargers could move first and play in Carson several years before the Raiders or Rams get there.

No this is/was the prevailing delusional thought process of the pompous NFL fans in the town.  In the elites mind, the Jaguars was and always should have been their team.  They believe the Rams relocation was the booby prize for not getting their rightful expansion team.  Darn callers into talk radio would always bring this up over and over again.  When Stan leveraged out Shad, they started the drum beat of not for long and the Jaguars will be in St Louis.  Shad is a very supportive alumni member and ipso facto that means the Jaguars are inevitably in STL.

I never read anything about how a move to Los Angeles would affect the St. Louis market. If they have to stay in St. Louis, a new stadium will be built there, which surely would improve the market. I am glad you brought up the viability issue.

During the expansion race in 1993, the NFL actually delayed awarding the second team, so that St. Louis could get its act together. It was tremendously unfair to the other cities, who unlike St Louis, had their ducks in a row. Even with an extra month, St. Louis failed. My understanding is that the NFL asked Wayne Weaver if he'd like to drop the Jacksonville bid and own the St Louis team. Weaver said no. Ironically, Weaver had closer ties to St. Louis than Kahn does. Weaver lived in St Louis for years and made his fortune there with Brown Shoe Company.


Wayne Weaver turned down St Louis and Shad will too.

What happened was nobody trying to start up a team in Los Angeles wanted to seek public funds (aka taxes) to build the new stadium. The NFL interpreted that as lacking support and commitment to a team in LA.
