Quote:Wait so rivalries can only be within a division? What about:

Brady/Peyton, NE/IND

Manning Bowl

Seattle/GB is becoming one

There can be bad blood outside the division. You better believe Gruden wanted to crush Tampa, Fisher wants to beat Tennessee, and I want to beat Del Rio every time we play his team. Coaching rivalries are pretty common.
Cutler vs. Rivers is a bit of a rivalry as well.

They don't seem to like each other too much.

If both teams are winning their respective divisions every year then they will play every year.

We have had the reverse with the Browns for some time.

Lots of "ifs, ands and buts" before this supposed rivalry can develop.  What you'll notice in these out of division rivalries is that they are most often between teams that routinely win their division and also that one team doesn't regularly dominate the other when they meet and that they meet at least once per year.  We need to worry about winning our division consistently before worrying about potential out of division rivalries.  I get that Carr and Bortles will be forever linked by the fact that they came out in the same draft, but it's also assuming both of them remain starting caliber QBs for the bulk of their careers.

Just a personal rivalry, not Chargers vs. Bears. But yes they are well known for not being friends.

It feels so good to not play against the Browns again because that means we are no longer in the division's basement.

The two teams are on similar paths and should peak at the same times.

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

Not exactly. They are definitely improving at the same time, but not by hiring new coaches in the same offseason.

I don't see either franchise making a coaching change.  I meant more roster wise anyway.

What I meant was we changed coaches two years before the Raiders did.

they made a change at the same time but they let that coach go and moved on to DelRio the way the two teams have been built the last 4 years are very similar

I wouldn't mind traveling to northern California once in awhile for a rivalry game.  On the flip side, I have no interest in going to the Los Angeles metro area....ever.

Quote:I've thought this about the raiders for a while. Both teams have young talent and are ascending at the same time. The Raiders might develop a little slower given their division is functional, but once the Broncos cap catches up to them they should have no problem. So they'll be our conference rivals (IE Pats-Colts).

Then I also really believe in Mariota. His next year will be a big test but if he passes it we will have two (or three if you think Luck is elite) elite QBs in the division for a long time. Fun times to be a Jags fan.

Agreed. Also wanted to point out that this guy ^^ was one of the few that predicted Carr's success in the NFL.

Despite debate from myself and many others.

You, sir, were correct.

While I have doubts that the raiders and Jags will develop any heated rivalry - they certainly seem to have a similar trajectory in their roster builds.

Should be a fun parallel to watch.

Appreciate it. I get about as many wrong as I do right, though... for example, I only watched one game of Bortles (the worst of his UCF career) and said he would bust. So, there's definitely room for growth.

I would love to get a Monday night game too. But most fans would not care about a Jaguars vs. Raiders game until both teams are playoff contenders.
