Running Up The Score? Not so fast!
|
Quote:patriots scored 51 on the Jaguars just this year. I didn't blame the pats, I blamed the Jags for sucking. This^ If the opponent doesn't like getting scored on it's their responsibility to stop it. This is a competition. Opponents like the dolts, who've been arrogant of their team record, shouldn't expect their opponents to 'ease off the gas' when they (the dolts) are on the receiving end. Just like they shouldn't expect other teams to 'take it easy' on their current quarterback 'father time' if he's stupid enough to try running the ball. I echo what many have said here. I don't understand the complaints about continuing to score. People moan when the Patriots do it, but why. This whole "respect" thing is rubbish. Just because the Colts quit why should we. There are personal and team records that we should be aiming for. Chances to run new plays and practice game management.
Keep scoring until there is no time left in my opinion
There's no such thing as running the score up for a team like ours. You take the points where you can get them, even in lopsided wins. Not only does the team need to learn how to win, but so do some of our participation trophy demanding fans.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:I will always be in favor of scoring. It's the opponents job to stop it.I agree 100%. This also goes for celebrations after TD's. Hey you don't want your opponent to do a Touchdown dance, then don't let them score
Quote:How many times have the Colts run the score up on opponents? They're in no position to be crying about it happening to them. It's clearly only OK when you aren't on the receiving end.

The same people who get upset by "running up the score" are the same people who think everyone deserves participation trophies. This is the NFL and these players so often feel like they can beat the living crap out of their girlfriends, I say it's a good slice of humble pie for some of them to be on the receiving end of games like this. Heaven knows us Jags fans have gotten used to it.
Demoralize and destroy. We want them to lose out.

Quote:With how many times teams have ran it up on us it feels good to be on the opposite end of it.. I know. When was the last time we blew out a playoff contender before yesterday? Answer: Way too long. Quote:If the opponent doesn't like getting scored on it's their responsibility to stop it. Exactly. There is no reason to ease off the gas pedal against a divisional opponent that beat you earlier in the season in a must-win home game. If the Colts played defense in the second half we would not have scored 42 points. Quote:I agree 100%. This also goes for celebrations after TDs. Hey you don't want your opponent to do a touchdown dance, then don't let them score Cam Newton said something about this after being publicly criticized for dancing in the end zone. Something like, "If you don't like my dancing, don't let me score." He sounded selfish but I thought it was funny.
I really think we can be scary good if we can put together a quality defense in the off season.

You only kneel down when you can run out the clock, otherwise you are actually being more insulting.
Quote:You only kneel down when you can run out the clock, otherwise you are actually being more insulting. And you certainly don't kneel down at the opponent's 1-yard line. Teams are crazy when they do that. If you can score points, run another play!
It really wasn't even running up the score in an egregious manner. The thought is that you QB sneak it and make them drive 99 yards if you don't score. It might have been running up the score, but not really in an unsportsmanlike way.

Going for it was the smartest play on 4th down, worst case scenario you don't score and they start at thier one yard line. What else are we going to do kick a field goal (pointless) and then kick it off to them. Go for the juggler! 50 Burger!!!
It was a smart move. Almost as smart as trying to draw Indy offsides before challenging the Hurns play.
