Good quarterbacks minimize the chance of those freak plays. The GOAT doesn't suffer from these but a few times a year.

Look at Blake's two games under Marrone. Gus Bradley was a historically bad coach; I have no doubt that he hampered Bortles' progression. I'm confident he will turn it around. Would like to see some competition ala Nick Foles if not too expensive.

One or two? I really don't recall many bad decisions that got dropped. It was more like every defender was using stick-em against him.

He's wrong anyway, it's not game managers that keep drives alive, that's franchise level guys. Game managers just throw it out of bounds and let the defense do its job after the punt.

No, they make a pass if it's there because someone got open, they're not the one making the play. That's what game managers are and what game managers do, they win if the team around them is good enough to carry them without them ever having to make a tough throw. If they could be the playmaker they wouldn't be called a game manager.

Yeah we are talking about the guy with 51 interceptions in 3 years. He had some awfully unlucky interceptions this year, but he also was left off the hook a lot too. So as I said, it balances out.

Dude had a handful of passes bounce of others and they think that makes up for the enormous amount of bad plays he has.

Blake is the complete opposite of a game manager. Dude is a gun slinger. Problem is he throws ducks.

No offense, but there aren't many GOAT's walking around looking for a team or coming out of college. And like the other poster above me, Bortles is definitely a GUN SLINGER, like Favre and not a game manager like Alex Smith. 

 

Another thing most of you who are clamoring for Bortles becoming a game manager forget, a game manager NEEDS a good running game to supplement them. And guess what, our running game last year was nonexistent.

The very definition of a game manager is someone who is able to keep the offense "ticking over" enough so that it keeps the team in the game and doesn't end drives with silly mistakes or turnovers.

We have never seen a Borts with a good running game, so maybe it is a focus in the draft to upgrade the line.

People forget that Alex Smith looked like a bust at one point.  He was drafted 1st overall by the 49ers and never looked the part.  He worked with Any Reed and the rest is history.  Reed made a team built by defense and running the ball.  It took the pressure off of Smith and he thrived.  One would hope Bortles could benefit from the same scenario.

 

Blake Bortles record is just horrific when he throws for over 300 yards. (only 1 win)  Tom and Dave just poured a ton of money for the defense.  It makes sense to use the draft to build the offense and almost looks certain to pick a RB high in this draft.  Establish a running game, play solid consistent defense, and take the pressure off of Blake.   I could see him thriving if the situation is right.

 

Play it safe? Limit Bortles to safe throws? How did that strategy work out in the second half of week 17?
