I just saw a tweet saying that Clemson is the most overrated team in college football. I'm not sure that 'overrated' is the right term for a team that is 13-0. Having said that, it was tweeted by a NC fan, go figure.

 

Baloney. Clemson scored 45 points against the Tar Heels. Other wins this year include Notre Dame and Florida State. That UNC fan obviously is just mad about losing.

People forget the fact that he's the all-time top-scorer for his country..

In the case of individual players, it goes like this: Somebody is named an All-American by the AP and wins a national award so every college football expert who talks to NFL scouts says he will be a first rounder. It suddenly changes the next season and for whatever reason, the same player struggles to stay in the first round. So when NFL scouts are watching him, hearing the word "overrated" is inevitable.

 

Another reason people use that word a lot is how polls are affected when upsets occur. Remember Ole Miss beat Alabama? The Rebels immediately shot up to #3 in the AP. The next week they were blown out in Gainesville. This was a perfect example of a team being overrated. If you are not good enough to keep the score close against Florida your win at Alabama probably was not deserving of a 10-point jump in ranks.

UNC got hosed there, bad. Not even close to being offside. That ref looked to even throw the Flag before the ball was even kicked!
