Joeckel has allowed 1 sack this year

He's serviceable. Hurts to say

If you go by PFF, the 1 sack stat is true. Unfortunately he's also given up 7 QB hits and 19 hurries. And is ranked 62/74 in pass blocking. Sacks are a bad stat.

Quote:He's never going to be big enough to excel in the NFL. The gaining 12 pounds of pure muscle in the first two months of the offseason was bull. The man is playing at less than 300 pounds, maybe significantly less, and has a small upper body on top of that. He is never going to get push and he is never going to consistently stop a bull rush. I think this season is about as good as he is going to get - below average.
If Joeckel is below average, who in your opinion is average?

Quote:I was reading an article stating Luke allowed 8.5 sacks last season.

This season he has allowed 1. Is that correct?

Our O-line is ranked 27 in pass protection and we are ranked 24 in run blocking. I didn't know it was that bad.

According to this

The link above also says he only allowed one sack, but that doesnt seem right from watching the games... (I think the reason the number is low is because of how Elusive Blake is or it would be higher)...

Eugene Monroe was almost slightly above when healthy but I guess you could say he's average for the Ravens this year at LT.

I saw upshaw plant him on his [BLEEP] again. It's pretty sad that him just getting in the way is him playing better. I saw bad effort on a couple of run plays too.

For him having what I thought was his best game against the jets he follows up with a crummy game against the Ravens.

Espn before monday njght football showed a stat for sacks caused by qb it had Bortles at 7/26 his fault.

Jermey Parnell is average.

Like the other poster said, Eugene Monroe was a little above average.

Quote:Also since we noting stats from these analytic sites, PFF ranked Bortles in the top five for percentage of sacks on the QB. They said 28% of the sacks given up this season were his fault, not the O-Lines. Which would in theory raise of pass blocking rank a bit if they accounted for only sacs responsible by the line.

Indeed. The very nature of the Jaguars deeper passing attack requires Bortles to buy time in the pocket and asks the OL to hold their blocks longer. Overall the group is not that bad, however, the last couple games has seen a bit too many defenders breaking through. That said, and while pass blocking is clearly their strength, their run blocking as been nothing short of abysmal. TJ Yeldon deserves all sorts of credit for maintaining a 4.0 ypc average and a solid 60 yards per game.

Parnell started out the year rock solid, but it's like he's been exposed more as of late. I'm wondering if teams are figuring him out now that there's quite a bit of tape on him.

Still, if someone back during the preseason
said Joekel would have only had one or two sacks allowed after nine weeks, said person would have been laughed off the board.

Only thing missing on the offense is a LT. I think Cann can take over at LG next season, wiTh a healthy Linder next season. Maybe not draft one in the 1st round, but atleast bring in a LT in the 2nd or 3rd. Compete with Joeckel. I don't know, I just don't think Joeckel is good enough to be anything more than a swing tackle. He gets pushed around way too much in all facets of the game.

That might not be a bad idea. Even if a 3rd round OT isn't ready to start the season at OT, he very well may develop into a legitimate starter in time. Until then, Joekel isn't exactly garbage.

Most consistent winning teams are not using as much resources in payroll and draft picks in the offensive line as you all want the Jags to do. They use schemes and good QB play to hide whatever weaknesses are in their offensive line.

not sure I agree with this. If you look at most playoff teams they have consistent line play or minimal injuries on the line

If people want to make their own judgments:

(Apparently we are the 5th highest spenders on the offensive line. Yikes)

By my count the top ten spenders on OL are 49-44

Bottom ten are 50-42.

Doesn't seem like a lot of conclusions to draw.

Quote:I disagree with them saying 28% is his fault. Our Line just isn't that good.
Bortles is in the top 4 for sacks this year, and a bunch of them come from him abandoning the pocket or holding the ball too long. Hes good, but saying he isn't responsible for some of the sacks isn't the truth.

That may have something to do with it. But I've definitely seen a few times where he's been beaten off the edge....badly.
