Did you watch the Jets play this weekend?

EDIT:

Oakland is definitely approved and it is hard to fly out to the West Coast, but the Raiders got cute in the fourth quarter of that game.

Actually,, the Jags may have caught a huge break that Fitzpatrick got hurt. His left hand/thumb looked to be seriously hurt yesterday. He had to come back in for 2 plays when Geno got knocked out for a minute. Fitzpatrick couldn't grasp the ball with his left hand. After those two plays, he was noticeably wincing over the pain. I'd be surprised if he plays next weekend. The Jets have been a much better team with Fitzpatrick at QB this year. Him being out/hurt is actually a big break for the Jags (as strange as that sounds).

Geno Smith is terrible,,, terrible. Even though he may have had decent stats yesterday (Jets were down big and had to constantly throw), Geno's situational awareness and "football IQ" looked absolutely atrocious yesterday. Geno looked like he had no idea what was going on at times. The announcer (Gannon) mentioned that fact on a few occasions.

Really,, I don't think even the Jags can lose to Geno Smith. He's awful.

Yeah, me too...  In fact, all I had to do is read the title and it hit me - my coffee cup wasn't just half empty...  It was COMPLETELY empty!!  Dangit if I didn't have to go refill it!

Thanks OP!

There's no break when you face a team that is missing key players or less than 100%.  The only result is that the Jags "might" look better than they really are.  We want a team that can compete with the best.  This notion of being excited about opponents missing key players is pathetic.  You aren't the best unless you beat the best!

News flash. (We aren't the best, nor are we close. And it isn't changing this season)

I'm not excited about opponents missing key players. I was just pointing out opinion that Geno Smith is terrible, and the Jags have a chance to beat him.

The Jags can only play who's in front of them. They have absolutely no control on which opponents players get hurt directly prior to facing them.

Anyway,, there's been so much losing here the past few seasons. If the Jags can get a few wins (even if it's against teams with key players out), it's gotta be beneficial for them to be on the winning side more often,, which builds some confidence and starts to erode that "losing culture" mindset.

I can appreciate your perspective/opinion (which is not emotionally supercharged) unlike others here.

Given the incredibly sad state of our entire division, we may still be able to compete this year.

Quote:What gets me is how that one missed FG (two chances for one made FG) in Indy made so much of a difference on how we view this season.

Make one of those two FGs, and we are on schedule, on our way up, leading the division, all excited about our young team coming together, etc etc etc.

Actually three chances, but who's counting? Still though, I blame that loss even more-so on five penalties in one drive that literally handed the Colts a TD. Just don't be so stupid there and it never would have come down to FGs.

Yep. Thats what Caldwell referred to as "growing pains" when he was signed. Could prove to be costly.

We lose = "We suck"

we win = "we beat someone worse than us, that doesn't count"

Quote:I'll give you another example...

When Reggie Nelson was in Jacksonville, he was even worse than Cyp. He never correct angles, couldn't tackle and rarely if ever made big plays. But if you'd seen Reggie lately he's developed into a very good player. Watching him against the Steelers this past Sunday I couldn't help but think how much better our defense would be if we only kept him. Maybe we should give Cyp some real time to develop into the player we thought we were drafting.
Nelson wasn't traded solely due to on-field struggles, though. As I recall, he and Del Rio clashed often, with Nelson at one point loudly complaining about being forced to play corner. Instead of handling it behind closed doors, Del Rio told reporters that if he told Nelson to kick, Nelson would kick, like it or not. I'm not saying that was the wrong stance to take, but it was one more red flag about Del Rio's coaching. I think at this point, there are more than enough red flags about Gus' ability to develop and utilize his talent--including putting the right guys in the lineup--to make you wonder how much better Cyprien would be under a different coach, and if Cyprien will ever meet his potential under Bradley.

Quote:And during the bye week...   I thought to myself the Jaguars are better than their record for the first time in about a decade.  That is very significant.  This team is improving and getting there.  I don't know if these coaches can do it but watching the rest of the NFL this weekend, average play abounds.
The Jaguars are better than their record, and that's what's so frustrating. We have a solid roster with a few holes, yet our record is that of a team that is nowhere near competitive. That's on coaching.

Quote:Given the incredibly sad state of our entire division, we may still be able to compete this year.
The AFC South, sadly, may well end up being a race to 6-10 decided by tiebreakers--of which the Jaguars currently hold none.

Quote:Actually three chances, but who's counting? Still though, I blame that loss even more-so on five penalties in one drive that literally handed the Colts a TD. Just don't be so stupid there and it never would have come down to FGs.
Once again, coaching. Mental errors like game-killing penalties are on the coach to alleviate, either by coaching up guys so they avoid them, or by replacing serial penalty machines with guys who aren't as prone to tackling receivers while the ball is in the air. Myers being as reliable as a punctured condom doesn't help things, but you could convincingly argue that he's as much on Caldwell as he is on Bradley.

All true... but that's all this team has to hang it's hopes on for this season; specifically, that we might luck out and catch a few breaks via other teams misfortunes... and be able to maybe hang a 6-10 season. Maybe. This talk of making the play offs this season based on what this team has shown us so far is delusional! I've never tried the 'teal colored tea' but that must be some 'dang potent stuff. We squeak out a narrow win over an ailing bills team and all the sudden some fans think we got a shot at the play offs... that's desperation talking there.

Or the apologist version

We lose = "It's supposed to be a 5 year process to get .500"

we win = "Superbowl (not even being sarcastic)"
