 IMO, twoTDs to Hurns were garbage time (one vs. Pats, one last week). Also, his production in the 1st half (and the drop off) to the 2nd half has been well documented. It's not like he's slinging TDs left and right in crunch time.

 

What you are describing is still much less garbage time production than last year. Which was my point.

halfway through the 3rd quarter down 30 to 3. That's garbage time, especially when you watch that game and know the actual context.

 

Down 17 (thanks to Blake's pick 6) with 7 mins left in the game? Sorry, I don't know what team you think you've been watching, but I'm pretty sure 99% of the fanbase knew that game was over as soon as Blake threw that pick 6. 

 

A blown onside kick call away from winning the game? We lost by 11 points. Even after Hurns' TD, we STILL needed either two TDs or a TD, 2 PT conversion, and a kick to win that game. Not to mention Blake threw another horrible INT at the end.

 

Blake has made improvements, but his 2nd half play has not been good at all, and probably cost us those three games. Kinda like last year when he lost us Miami and Pittsburgh with questionable decision making late in the game.

I mentioned this last week (or maybe two weeks ago). Blake has the same mindset as Farve in that he's a gunslinger. Only thing is, he doesn't have Brett's arm (which in his prime was ELITE).

I think part of it is his mentality. I have a feeling that Blake is the opposite of Garrard and Henne in that he doesn't look to check down...almost to a fault. 

 

When nearly half of your passes are going to ARob and Hurns AND both players are averaging over 16 yards per catch? That's so rare that your top two receivers are accounting for that many looks and still averaging that high.

 

Last season, Denver's high powered offense of Thomas/Sanders didn't do it (neither one hit 15 in fact). Baltimore had two speedsters in the Smiths and a QB known for the deep ball, and they didn't hit 16 (Torrey was at 15.7). Steelers with Brown/Bryant didn't do it.

 

Two seasons ago, Thomas and Decker didn't do it.

 

I mean, if they sustain this rate, both ARob and Hurns would be in the top 5 per catch average the past three seasons. This is unprecedented stuff here. And while I would like to believe that these two are just having ridiculous seasons, we all know this isn't the case.

I'm simply happy that we are able to see more respectable stats from the kid that aren't tainted by garbage time as much as they would have been last year at this point.  I'm really not attributing it to him  --  simply glad that we are seeing a purer stat line that also happens to be improved. 

 

Looking at his improved numbers and also not having to deduct so much garbage time stuff is a good thing. That's all.

Bortles is going to be just fine. The number that sticks out to me is completion percentage. It's at 55% that has to get better.

Bortles gives this team something we've not had in a long time, excitement on offense. He's no Mr. Check down, if anything he doesn't check down enough! He, and our other young guns, are really fun to watch.

 I think he will throw for 35 TD and 15 INT. I hope the INT will drop but I believe he is a gun slinger and he will learn by only throwing INT.

Yes.  It really must.  While I'm sure the drops are part of the problem, Bortles does the number no favors by throwing behind or too high for receivers quite often.   A number of Robinson's impressive grabs this season should have been more routine with an accurate pass.
