But there's a loooooooooooooong way to go.

1) your expectations are lower

2) you're immune to his babbling

3) the jag win yesterday has you feeling complimentary

4) all of the above

Quote:7 Bridges Radio decide who the voice of the team is going to be.

7 Bridges owns 1010XL.

I believe Frangie owns a piece of the business.

See where this is going?

The team doesn't determine who the voice is going to be. The broadcast partner does. Frangie does have some experience calling college games for several years. All that experience doesn't seem to have helped him get any better at play-by-play, and 2 years into this thing, I can't imagine the Jaguars are thrilled with the product of the radio broadcast. Between Frangie's pointless droning, and Boselli rambling on, the best part of the radio broadcast, Jeff Lageman, has to struggle to get air time.

Ok, I was not familiar with his college experience but he sounds like a guy with none.

It makes sense that him getting the job was a buddy deal. I at least enjoyed listening with Sexton even though he had his flaws. Now the broadcast is more of a chore to listen to. Not enjoyable.

Every time I hear him call a play, I feel like he's one of the Broadcast companies "pool" reporters.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

After 10 minutes of the stuttering steeler, I gouged out my eardrums with a rusty screwdriver.

I am a much happier person now.

That's unfortunate.

It's true about Frangie. He is co-owner of the radio station 1010xl so he has authority over who calls play-by-play and analyst. At one time he was a paid employee, then he branched off onto his own and contracted his show, then he bought into the business as an owner. It's no wonder he has Ballou on the sideline too. I like Ballou, but can do without Frank.

I think he is trying to get his foot in the door to bigger opportunities on network broadcast. IMO, he has a long way to go. But I can't fault the man for trying.

I will say though, when I'm at the game and listening, he does a decent job; I suppose it's because I can see the action on the field and not relying upon him to relay the action into my headset.

Yes, but how did you enjoy the rest of the broadcast?

I actually like Boselli's color commentary. Lagemans too. They just desperately need a play-by-play guy,

Most of the time, I think Tony is just speaking to hear himself speak.  Sometimes he offers good color commentary.  Other times he's just filler.  I can tolerate Boselli and Lageman, but Frangie is just impossible to listen to in large doses.  I used to religiously listen to the broadcast particularly when I was in the stadium to get sideline info and other details.  I have found myself only listening to the pregame, and sparingly during the game since he took over.

I don't think he was ever considered a paid employee at 10101XL.  I'm pretty sure he's the guy who beat the bushes to secure the partners to finance the deal to get the station up and running.  Can't fault him for building this brand, and I don't even fault him for basically fulfilling his dream to be an NFL play by play guy by buying his way into that role.  When 1010XL secured the broadcast rights, I figured they'd eventually put their own guy in the booth.  When the Jags offered Sexton a job with the team in their digital department, he jumped ship in a heartbeat to go back to work for the team as opposed to doing the independent contractor thing he'd been doing for several years.  I spoke to him after they announced Frangie would be his replacement.  He was polite about it, but I got the sense he didn't have high expectations.  Because the team is generally happy with the expanded, dedicated coverage they're getting for the team from the station, I don't see them making any changes.  But, if there was one area where Khan could use his influence with a paid provider, this is one I wish he'd flex for and demand a legitimate broadcaster.  Go hire a guy doing college ball currently similar to what Tampa has been doing for decades.

I agree that he is slow and it's awful...it makes you feel like there is more happening than there is. "Yeldon takes to the outside..........stopped........for no gain maybe a yard"

Funny that you mention that.

That's his experience - calling baseball.

I don't know why, mainly because I hate Frangie on the radio, but I think he does just fine. I know this puts me in the minority, like super minority, like raise your hand if you used to be Pope minority.

Does anyone remember when Frangie tried his hand in the restaurant business? He opened two stores concurrently IIRC and within a year or two, both folded. I remember him talking on his show once how he had two failed restaurants to write off his taxes.

Speaking of that, does anyone know if Big Johns Wings and Things (or whatever it's called) is still in business?

Uche Nwaneiri just opened up his place in Atlanta called Anchor Down Bar and Grill.

When will these athletes ever learn the restaurant business is not one they should be in.

I went to the "Frangie's" at the beach once.  Met Brad Meester there, who was the guest - it was his rookie season.  He and his wife were really nice folks.  Good people.

I can't recall, but I believe Frangie was doing a radio show out of the restaurant.  If not, he was emceeing as if he were (in a similar format - Frangie centric with a little Q&A mixed in.)  I remember the logo had his face with a microphone on it.

I think Crumpy's is now closed, too.  Unfortunately, I never heard a good word about that place.
