o Line and Marrone

#21

I don't know how many dots need to be connected before you people stop believing that these coaches really have THAT much of an effect.

Coaches can draw up a good plan. They can x and o's until their wildest hearts are content.

They can mastermind a practice, game day plan, call the perfect plays, and all that jazz.... but if your players fail, you fail.

So Maronne was supposed to show up and just "fix" the Oline? How? He was gonna "coach em up"?

How does that work do you guys figure? This coach didn't speak the same, so this other new one will get the same players to play better? Block better? Stronger?

I dunno.....

I think the Oline struggles are more based on, LJ still "coming along", Beadles sucking, switching centers again, Linder getting hurt, Parnell was new to the group.

I know I know... excuses.. blah blah

Coaching only goes so far.

Bingo.

It could definitely get worse.

I don't remember people saying that about Del Rio.

hahaha.....

Del Rio's last season, the partial one... everyone was running him out with pitchforks, he had lost the team, lost the fans, they wanted ANYONE

So they were blessed with Smiff/Mularkey

which was SO BAD we all wanted them gone right away.

This time... the fans are likely to get what they want, again.....

wonder how worse it will get this time

I think the line would be improved if you move Beadles to the right and put Bowanko at left, Cann is too raw right now,

I didn't say people didn't want Del Rio gone. I don't recall the argument being "it can't be worse". Del Rio's problem was he could get his team on the cusp of the playoffs and the team would fall apart.

Maybe people say it can't get worse than Bradley because he is literally one of the worst head coaches of all time record wise.

That argument is brought up EVERY time a coach struggles here.  They did it with Coughlin as well at the end.

The argument can also be made that the team held onto Del Rio for far too long. He is the only coach in NFL history to make it to his 9th season as head coach of a team without winning a division title.

JDR did just enough to get an extension, and then the wheels came off.  He was the beneficiary of working for an owner who wasn't going to pay him AND another head coach.

I'm left stunned as to why Beadles is still starting. I don't know the line calls, but I can tell a turd when I see one. Cann needs to play. He is raw, but let him get the experience. I say the same with Shatley. Get the kid in there. Beadles is a bust.

Even Tony Boselli was left wondering why Beadles is still out there playing.  His befuddlement was off the charts last night during the radio show.

Quote:Yeah, it's a head scratcher for sure.  Nothing has improved with the offensive line under Marrone's guidance, so we should go ahead and promote him.  Typical logic from the message board GM sect.

This is a strawman argument. How good or bad Marrone is as an OL coach (and I don't think the OL is as bad as some are making it out to be) is not a concern in regards to firing Gus. Marrone has a solid record as an NFL head coach, that's what matters, not his record as an OL coach or how well hid did mowing lawns as a teenager. Gus has a proven record of failure. Marrone is the logical in-season replacement for Gus, although Olson is another option.

According to Boselli et al. Shatley has a cast on his hand. Bowanko would be the more likely replacement if a change is made now.

Maybe Marrone makes that decision. Maybe Olson. Maybe Bradley. In any case the buck stops at Bradley.

Maybe Marrone is sabotaging Bradley to get the interim job.

Gus is scared to make changes obviously. That alone, he needs to be fired.

It could definitely get a crap-ton better though.  We're pretty close to as bad as it gets.

When Tony Boselli throws in the towel on a guy, you know things are dire and the change should have happened a long time ago.

If Tony B were standing next to Leo on the back of the Titanic when it was vertical, he would still think there was a chance the ship won't sink.
