They were awful today. How many times did Yeldon get hit in the backfield? And they saved their worst moments in pass protection for 3rd down.

I saw enough negative plays out of all of them to safely make my blanket statement, lol. Wiz hasn't gotten the credit for it yet, but he was especially terrible today. Probably worse than Beadles.

I've been hard on Luke but he hasn't been glaringly bad (like he has in the past). Most of the sacks this game didn't appear to be off four-man rush (except the first one). The problem we had was that they blitzed...a lot, and we just didn't have an answer for it. IMO, this one is on Olson. They stacked the line pretty much all game and sent pressure all over.

How many times did we run a screen? Twice that I could count (and the one time we called it on the opposite side of where the blitz was coming from) maybe?

Screen them to death until they stop sending the house. It may not work all the time, but it will at least slow them down.

Olson or Bortles not adjusting to it? I don't know, but yes, I'm surprised the bucs didn't blitz every play. We had no answer.

It feels like that, but would be interested in a break down of the tape. Otherwise you put blame on players who don't deserve it. After a game like this I understand how emotions take over, but to get better they need to identify the problem.

We did try screen a few times, but always seemed to do it at the wrong time.

i'm curious to see how many times they blitzed and how many times we screened. Even on the one when we blitzed to the opposite side, we still picked up 4-5 yards. That's a good "run" especially given how they stacked the line on us and made TJ work for every single yard he got.

I feel like Olson was content on attacking them deep, which is also an effective way to beat a blitz....except guys didn't get open or the blitz couldn't hold long enough.

Imagine a team trying to blitz the Patriots offense like the Bucs did to us today. I have a feeling the Patriots would throw a screen every single down if that's what it took to stop the defense from sending the house.

I just hate how are yards always seem difficult. bucs had a lot of easy yards whether it was due to play calling or our ineffective ability to diagnose what they were running.

It helps when you have guys like Edelman and Amendola, 1st down machines who can make guys miss. I don't see that on our roster. At least not to the level that it could be a big part of the offence.

Almost every team in the NFL gets easy yards...except for this team apparently

That's a great point though they have the quick twitch players to do it. Regardless, I think we are missing that type of adjustment to attack our opponents weakness. And that would explain why a lot of our success on offense looks difficult.

I haven't broken down the tape, but I did have the benefit of rewinding and watching a few handful of the plays several times to see what went wrong. I sawvthem all messing up this game.

As far as the blitzing goes, I think this falls more on the line than Olllie or Bortles. Most of the blitzes, we had enough personnel to block it, but would miss one of them. A lot of it was them showing with one player who backed off and the blitz would come elsewhere. Thats on the line to be coached up and communicate during the play. Our line was lost.

I think Greene is the closest we have to that.

Edelman and Amendola are quick twitch athletes, so yes that helps. But a well executed screen (and well called one) does not rely on a player's ability usually. When you have five or six guys going downfield hard (which the Bucs were doing on their blitz), at least one or two of the OL would be setting up the screen to block LBs, safeties and CBs.

That should be a win for the offense.

EDIT: I should probably clarify as people seem to think I'm referring to the quick WR screens. That is not what I am referring to. I'm talking about traditional screens in which you invite the defense to come in while the OL sets up to block for a RB or WR.

I think our talent is a lot better than 1-4.   It's the mistakes that drive me crazy.   Penalties, missed assignments, missed blocks, missed tackles, not staying in your lane on run defense. Big plays called back by penalties on offense, and on defense, penalties keeping opponents' drives alive.

And then, ILLEGAL FORMATION???   Is this preseason????   How the hell does a professional football team not know how to line up legally?

On Bortles' interception yesterday, Gerhart whiffed on his block and let his man get right in Bortles' face.

In pass protection, they can't even pick up a simple stunt by the defensive line!

If you watch this team, you can see a mistake on almost every single play.

Someone has to come in and coach the mistakes out of these guys.
